Let’s Talk Extended Service Plans / Warranty For Our Trucks

My method has always been don't buy it until the original warranty is about to expire. Decide at that point if I'm going to trade in or not. If not, buy the warranty on-line then. If you're getting a car loan it makes no sense to get it from the dealer at a higher cost at purchase and pay interest on it for three years before it's needed. If I've bought it at the 3 year point I will get a rebate if I trade the vehicle in before the extended warranty ends anyway. I always get the Ford plan. The others can use non Ford parts and can argue with the repair shop over cost. Not a good idea to have the repair place ticked off that they aren't getting what they asked before they even start repairing your car.

It doesn't matter when you buy the 'new car ESP'. You can wait 3 years until OEM expires, put the ESP still starts at mile 0, day 1 when you bought the vehicle. If not, then it's a used car ESP which will be higher in price.

EX2: You buy a new truck in 2026, but wait until 2029, 28K miles (before OEM) to get the ESP. The ESP still expires at 125K or 2034.

EX3: You buy a new truck in 2026. In 2030, 37K miles (after OEM) you buy an 5yr/60K ESP. This is 'used car' ESP that expires 2035 or 97K miles. Chances are, you will need a vehicle inspection if you are buying 'used car' ESP.

You really need to buy it before the original warranty expires. Yes, if you buy a six year plan it only covers an additional three years beyond the first three years. The plan coverage is the total years from new purchase.

All this time I thought it was "Grainger." Turns out its "Granger."

I've never been one to keep vehicles for long at all but I do plan to have this one for quite a few years. I just can't get myself to finish the page for the extended warranty though. Geez, they're spendy!! With the mileage I put on, I'd have to put it out to the max, probably 10 years and 175,000 miles. It just becomes another car payment at that. Going to rely on keeping after the maintenance and not abusing the thing; as far as that goes.

The Ford Maverick page on Reddit has tons of info about extended warranties through volume Ford dealers. Granger Ford is the one most commonly mentioned but there's also Flood Ford and Ziegler Ford who sometimes have equally competitive rates against Granger. The dealer tried to offer me an 8yr/100k warranty for $4.5k. Granger has the same plan for $1,500 less! Told them thanks but no thanks and went with cheaper one.

I bought the first one 10yr/100K miles from the dealer and the second one from Granger at a savings of well over $1,000. The first service and recall at my local Ford dealership I check (as advised by Granger) and the warranty showed on the truck/VIN. Same exact warranty!
