Linex fix suggestions.

Agreed that is lazy prep by the guy in the shop. Poor quality attention to detail, but sadly not uncommon. Looked at mine (TruckWorks as Linex isn't in Kansas) and there is a slight amount that blew through but nothing like yours and hard to see with the tonneau cover overhang there. I would definitely contact corporate just for the sake of maybe improving someone else's experience somewhere. I think you agreed to a settlement and so you are probably done with any other recourse though. I like the idea of the clear coat application to protect the blade damage. You may be able to get most of the overspray off by scraping with hard plastic or soft wood since the paint wasn't sanded there- tedious and frustrating...

Hey, everyone. Looking for input on what if anything can be done in this situation. I took my 3 week old XLT for linex today. Most of it looked even and the lines looked clean but when I got home, upon closer inspection I saw a few issues.
1)The holes in the back rail weren't covered and they sprayed through them onto the outside of the bed. I know I'm probably the only one who will see this because it's between the cab and the bed, but it came across as pretty lazy and it bugged me. One piece of tape under there would have kept that clean.

2)What masking they did do between the cab and the bed looked like it was in contact with the rear rail, causing the spray to kind of run and flake off.

These are two different pictures in two different places.

The whole back rail looked thin, inconsistent and rest to flake off.

I sent these exact three pictures to the vendor and they called me back within 2 minutes. They told me to bring it back and they'd clean it up. After a 30 min drive back there, they took a razor blade to the flaky parts in the back and cut it all the way back to where you can see paint in and spots. They said they couldn't do anything about the overspray and said I was good to go. They said nobody has ever complained about that before. I told them it looked like a lazy job and I felt like they rushed it(they finished in under an hour from the time I gave them my keys when I was told it would be two). They said there was no fix and asked me what I wanted them to do. They had charged me $300 for labor on top of supplies so I said I felt I should get at least half that back because they rushed. The service tech I was talking to went and got the owner who initially said $150 back was crazy. He ranged in arguments from "this is right, this is how it's done" to getting pissed at me when I told him social media said it was messy. He then told me he would give me a full refund and strip the whole liner back off and it would take 3 days. He straight up said i
I was just trying to get money back and nothing he offered would make me happy(he hadn't offered any fix other then the 5 minute "cleanup" they did). Begrudgingly he finally gave me $150 cash and asked me not to post a review. They are 5 stars on Google, Facebook and everywhere I looked, which is why I went to them. We were both pretty hot and I had just been told to drive 30 min back to the shop and then told it was fine so I took the $150 and left because that was the solution I proposed. Clearly they know it was not done properly because they told me to come back as soon as I sent the pictures and they didn't want me posting a review online.

The big question is what can I do about this? My biggest concern is that the back rail is now susceptible to rust because they took a razor blade to it and cut it back to the paint(which they said had been sanded). I'd rather have this fixed and relined and protect the vehicle than get the $150 back but, the owner was a jerk and doesn't seem interested in making it right. The next closest linex place is an hour away. If I contact corporate is there any chance they get another vendor to fix it? One person on Facebook said they got them to take their whole bed off and linex the back because that part has no clear coat and the linex won't come off there.

As I understand Line-X, they are independent contractors. The quality of installation depends upon who is working there. The warranty is good at any dealer. I think you have a couple options. Go back to your dealer, have the Line-X removed, and resprayed. That is not difficult for them to do it. The second option is to contact another Line-X dealer, make an appointment, have them remove it, and get it resprayed. Option three is call Corporate. Good luck. In Kansas, many Line-X installers no long use their product and switched to Phoenix, lesser known but virtually the same chemically, because Line-X Corporate got too hard to deal with. FYI, it took 8.5 hours to Phoenix spray my Ranger's bed with Phoenix UV, undercoat the truck, and then rust proof it. A lot of that time is taping everything off properly and for the UV coating to dry. Total cost was $1500.00, lifetime warranty. BTW, my Ford dealer has had problems with factory spray-in liners showing up with overspray. He took it to a company who used a chemical to remove it without damaging the paint. If your Line-X dealer claims they cannot take it off, they may be correct. But someone else can remove it and your installer can pay for their mistake because they are insured.

It appears that this is a new Ranger XLT? Just courious. For $525 you could have had a factory Spray in Liner. Any reason why not?

Yes, Line-X does remove the tie down rings. I have the factory liner and they did not remove them. I'm sure in due time they'll look like like the coating is flaking off.

Linex is a great product. Had it sprayed on two previous F150s and no issues. Would have had it on the Ranger but as I mentioned many Linex installers in Kansas switched to Phoenix, not because of the product but from banging heads with Linex corporate people. On both F150s, the shop removed the tie downs before spraying. On the Ranger, they sprayed over the tiedowns. Haven't noticed any problems when using bungie cord hooks on the sprayed tiedowns. I did notice that the premium level UV coating looked new in my last F150 after many years, while the basic non-UV Linex faded in my earlier F150. I had UV premium coating sprayed in the Ranger, even with a tonneau cover, but that is just me.

I would say my experience was not standard but, the only thing they took of for me was the panel where the power accessories can go. Sprayed over tiedowns, drain plugs and everything else.

Panel in the back left was the only thing removed and not sprayed for me. I would just talk to your people first. If I'd known ahead of time I might have taken some of this out myself. Maybe not. From what I see online, over the drain plugs is pretty regular for linex. I've seen a lot of people saying that if you take them out they're almost impossible to put back in after the spray. Its THICK. I could feel a difference in the weight of the bed driving home after it went in.

I take trucks to a shop in the KC area all the time for spray in liner. It's the Phoenix brand. The cost id $525.00 for a short bed F150.

Probably, taken 50 trucks there, and have NEVER seen a mess like that !!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable !!!
