I know the fine print includes that detail... but if they are willing to do the labor as part of it despite note buying a topper from Ford I won't complain.
Agreed, but I just say be careful. Even if the service center does it, Ford may reject the work and not pay it. It caused a bit of confusion at my service center. They saw there was a CSP and wasn't sure if it would be covered. I explained I didn't think it would since I didn't get a cap installed. It got even more confusing because I paid for the ports and labor through the Ford Accessories site but they thought I still owed them because Ford hadn't fully processed the order.

Even funnier is I had the J-Braces installed and it still shows as an open "recall" if I try and schedule service.

I also think the cap/topper qualifier is short-sided. Ford offers the rebranded Retrax Pro XR with T-Slots. The sole purpose for that is to install items above the rails. I'm installing a Retrax this weekend and would have gotten it through Ford if they would have reimbursed for the J-Braces, even though the Ford cover is more expensive.

How did you get the j-braces listed as a recall? I must have missed that part somewhere. I sure don't have it on my ford app. Got me so excited for nothing. Tease!

It’s not shown on the app. The app and Ford.com site will only show the window/door module recall as it is the only NHTSA recall open right now. You should be able to see the Load Bracket recall alert if you go to the Ford.com site, sign in, go to Vehicle Dashboard, then to go down to Schedule Service. It will send you to your prefered dealer’s site to schedule service. The Window and Load Box recalls will likely be shown there like my picture above.

I just took my RR into my dealership for some recall work (hood not latching, rear seatback not latching, and the driver's side door arm rest creaking). He indicated the Ford is now installing the Load Box Reinforcement Bracket as a recall item... IF you have a shell or camper installed. They will only do the recall if you have a shell/camper. ?‍♂

I'm not sure if that is the case with everyone else, but that is what they told me and what is on my paperwork.

Just a little FYI.
Yes, I just went to an ARE dealer to purchase a shell and he showed me the recall notice they received. Any RR built before September of 24 did not have the load box upgrade installed. Mine was built in Augjust, arrrgh. So this is a dealer only fix. 435.00. To get it covered by Ford for the necessary upgrade, I was sent in circles with no accountability from anyone. Bottom line, I just paid for the upgrade and ordered my new shell. Pretty frustrated on that one.

How to check if I already have it? My build date was 9/24. Is it something I can see under truck?

The rear seat back not latching is a recall? Mine is very difficult to latch.

Not a recall. There's a Ford SSM/TSB for it.
gotcha - do you happen to know the #? I assume the issue is only with trying to close it rather than it becoming lose and unlatching.

Update 9/24/24:
Got my brackets installed today. Total was $337 (1.5 hr labor). The dealership did me a solid because this actually took the service dept around 4 hours to complete, but I had called about a dozen times beforehand to make 100% clear the price I was going to pay.

It was a massive pain to do this from start to end, but I FINALLY got it done.

Edit:
If any of you guys also happen to get lucky and score some of these from a random dealership, do what I did and have your dealership agree on a price to install beforehand. Quote the parts website install price as a starting point.
it is absolute bullshit that you have to pay anything for a mistake that ford made, honestly I have heard people getting it done for free.

Maybe now they are, but I was one of the early RR owners in the US so finding parts and service was difficult back then.
