Hello! I've got a '24 Ranger Lariat that I'll be picking up this week and I'm looking to upgrade the tire package and keep stock suspension and the stock 18" rims. After doing a bunch of research I've narrowed my selection down to these:

M/T Baja Boss A/T - 265/65/18 (or 265/60/18)
Falken Wildpeak A/T4W - 265/65/18 (or 255/70/18 as I've seen some other forum members have run this size with success)
Kumho Road Venture AT52 - 265/65/18 (or 255/70/18)
Cooper Discoverer AT3-4S - 265/65/18 (or 265/60/18) (these seem to be in hot demand, I cant find a ton of stock online)

I've had the Coopers on my previous vehicle, a 2007 V8 Explorer Sport Trac, and loved them in everything but slush. There's nothing but positive reviews of the Falkens online, and a lot of positive reviews about the Kumho. I haven't seen as many reviews for the M/T in general, though the ones I have seen have been good. So this is where I'm looking for some input from fellow Ranger owners. What's been your experience with 3PMS rated all weather all terrain tires? For context, I live in Calgary, AB, Canada, and do about 80% on road driving, and I'd like to run one set year round. I also understand that I might have to run a spacer to get suspension component clearance, and while I'd prefer not to, it isn't the end of the world.

Thanks very much & I'll post some pics when I take delivery!

Iā€˜m very happy with the Falken A/T4W 255/70/r18. As far as I’m concerned, itā€˜s a perfect fit and I’m happy with the performance so far (2k miles).

I don't understand the upgrade. I don't live in the frozen north, but it seems that for your use the stock tires will work well. Are they not snow rated?

For climate I live in, the stock tires are inadequate for safe winter driving. Winter temperatures tend to range from -35C to +15C, occasionally getting that swing in a 24h period depending on what weather system is moving in. The Wrangler Territory AT that (I believe) comes stock on the Lariat is not 3PMS rated from what I've seen on the Goodyear website, and having that rating is a requirement for driving on some highways near where I live. If I wanted to run two sets of wheels & tires I'd just get a set of studded tires for winter driving and call it a done deal; I'd rather run one set, however.

The stock fx4 tires are pretty much bad at everything. Bad tread design for flat pavement, not very good for offroading, not 3peak. Really poor choice by Ford.

We've got the Coopers on our 4Runner. Quieter than the previous BFG AT2 KO2s and expect they will wear a little faster, but no regrets

Went with 265/65R18 Falken Wildpeak AT3WA, which is the only available version where I live, on a wheel with a slightly different offset (pushed wheels out but tires stay within wheel arch) . Had them on previous truck, they were great and still are.

AT3WA seems to be less agressive but more suited for snow (3PMSF). I drive mainly on road/backroads and in my experience they work great in snow.

Hey Christopher, I'm from just north of you near Red Deer. I went with the BF Goodrich Trail Terrains due to our snow conditions, which are made for year round use as well. M+S, 3PMSF, All Weather rated AT tires. They have ALL the symbols haha. Here is a review too:

Cheers

Hey there!

I'd absolutely considered the Trail Terrain, though I'll be going with the Falken AT4W in 255/70/18 simply because it's going to be a tougher tire overall. I do some driving on jobsites, so I want the additional traction and durability of the Falken. It is pretty cool that BFG came out with a tire that's way better in the winter than their other tires, though, and if I find that the Falkens are too much, the BFGs will likely be my backup choice.

Cheers!

I don't think you will go wrong with the Falken, it was my second choice and Firestone being my third.
The Trail Terrain i've used for 1700km so far. Some characteristics I've found is that they are super quiet on the road. They are measurably lighter and with their more on-road tread pattern, should be better for mileage if any of those matter to you.

I don’t understand why they didn’t include the nokian outpost Nat in that comparison. That channel seems to rank Nokian highly in general, especially in winter conditions, and he said in a Reddit sub that he has the outpost Nat’s on his cayenne, so their absence in a winter test of AT tires is a head scratcher…
