2022 Ford Ranger: Initial stock levels cut due to COVID

A bulletin sent to dealers confirms production of the 2022 Ford Ranger has been affected by COVID-19 lockdowns in China.

Dealers will have fewer examples of the new Ranger to sell than initially forecast. As a flow-on, wait times for customers in the queue for a new Ranger will likely be extended – although by how much isn’t clear.

Launch timing for the new Ranger hasn’t been delayed, however.

“Next Gen Ranger Q2 production has been negatively impacted as a result of some major cities in China now being under COVID lockdown,” reads the confidential bulletin, dated April 27, 2022.

“Unfortunately, a portion of the expected Q2 production volume will need to be re-calendarised [sic], with detailed impact to production expected to be available over the next fortnight.

“The production loss from Q2 has delayed the anticipated timing of the April allocation (for July production) as we assess the latest information available and is now expected on Dealer status the morning of Thursday 28th April.

“As a flow on effect of production loss from Q2, a portion of the April Dealer allocation (for July production) will now need to be dedicated to build existing Dealer orders from earlier allocations, decreasing the volume available to allocate to Dealers in April.”

Ford says the Chinese COVID lockdown has affected 91 suppliers and 393 unique parts used on the Ranger.

We will have to see what Ford's plans our when the supply chain is in such disarray. Does Ford partially build the truck and then put them in a lot for future parts. My bet is that they will not hit their production release dates. Ford's vague any way's with when they will be produced. I can see more layoffs coming

Imagine how much profit could actually make with a competent management structure

I take that back. The 6G Ranger will be launched at a date close to what Ford has set. ROW launch 2022. NA Launch 2023. Large Dealers are first taking vehicles to fill there lot's. The small Dealership where you can order a vehicle with no money above the MSRP will be limited. You will wait for your new Ranger. Like the Bronco. Large Dealerships will be able to make a good profit over MSRP. Speaking from a NA member. The supply chain blips are World wide.

Part of the issue isn't just building the new model, it's also fulfilling the orders for the outgoing model. There was a production shutdown earlier in the year that pushed the timeline to the right by a month, that's before they stop and retool the plant for the new model. The COVID situation combined with a host of other issues (a flooded factory in the Philippines where wiring harnesses are made) continue to create the perfect storm.
