Hi all.. my new Ranger Larait was just delivered, picking it up in within next 2 weeks, due to being out of town. The tires on my Ranger are the GoodYear Wrangler ATS tires. This is my first truck, over the last 15 years I leased many BMW X3's, thus I switched back and forth between all season tires and Winter tires. I NEVER had All Terrain tires before , can someone explain the good or bad of All Terrain tires. Are AT tires a year round tire for summer and winter? I am in Canada so need a fairly good tire that can handle some snow with good traction. The tires on the new truck are 18 inches, should I look for some other type or Size of tire, maybe 19 or 20 inch tires, and/or maybe get the tires switched out to just Winter Tires before I take delivery? My X3 has 20 inch Blizzaks, great handling winter tire.

I appreciate all the feed back for this Virgin truck owner who doesn't have a clue about All Terrian tires. Cheers from Atlantic Canada

I too have the Wranger's on my Lariat. I going to see how they perform for winter tire(Ontario winter) I think I saw the M&S rating on them so they should be good unless there is lots of snow. I got my last truck stuck(4 feet of snow) but eventually got it out.
If you looking at getting a winter tire I would drop down to the 17 inch tire they put on the XLT FX4's. A 19-20 inch won't fit unless it's lifted.

It came with mud & snow tires. It's a 4 x 4. You'll be fine. The Good Year Wrangler ATS are not a great tire, but get a good snow rating on the Tire Rack customer reviews.

My experience is that they are not great off road (rock, gravely loose conditions). There's just not enough bite. I've read mixed reviews of their performance in snow. So far, I've had mine out in snow twice, in pretty mild conditions (dry, chalky snow on dirt roads), and I didn't have any issues.

I've decided not to trust them and ordered new AT tires.

Look for tires that are "three peak snow service rated."

There are a number of "on road AT" tires out there that have a great balance between mild off-road, snow, and road performance. I had a set of Yokohama Geolander G015s on my previous Subaru and they were great in all conditions (road, snow, rain, mild off road). The BF Goodrich Trail Terrains are in the same category. I went with something a bit more aggressive this time, but I was very tempted by the Trail Terrains. Good luck!

I have the Lariat also and I live in norther Alberta. The AT tires are not good winters. I installed Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3 on my truck on OEM 18” rims. I went with 265/70 R18 because I am getting K03 for my summers and they are the same 32.6” in diameter. Get what ever size you prefer, but I suggest getting dedicated winters.

A good AT tire *can* be ok in some snow, but if you drive in snow regularly you’ll definitely want a dedicated snow tire.

I don’t think any AT tires are good on ice.

fwiw many folks, myself included, don’t consider the wrangler ats a good AT tire.

There are some recent videos on YouTube that talk about this very topic and cover a number of AT tires. My take from watching a few of them is that the brands all have different personalities and characteristics and there’s no simple answer to “which is best?” Or “is an AT a good winter tire?”.

This is best answered by you-yourself. Looks like you had dedicated Snow for your Beemer. If that served you well and you will be doing the "same type" of driving with your Lariat and still living in the same area climate wise, then do the same thing. I have always had Lincolns and did the same thing - dedicated seasonal Snow and Ice. My personal preference has always been Michelin x-Ice. They served me well and that is what I currently have on my Lariat. Just purchased 265 /60 R18 110T SL. I live in the Lake Michigan SW Snow Belt area. We are expecting 10" of snow tonight so Ill find out tomorrow how they perform on the slick roads.

There are more agressive tires than these like the CrossClimate , but for overall city and country road winter driving they they offer the best balance of comfort and safety - especially on ice. Plus, dedicated winter tires tend to last longer for the purpose they were intended.

Thanks for the reply. I decided to order new rims and tires and have them installed on the Larait before I pick up my truck in 14 days. Question....many replies on here have mentioned down sizing to 17's, which is what I may do. Your thoughts? good luck with all ther Lake-effect snow

18" are factory - if that's what the Lariat was designed for why change the size? If you do change the size, make sure you reset the computer.

Again, what flavor do you like best. If you are into tuning suspension and want a different look and different rims, then go for it!

The Blizzak DM V2s are perfect for you. 10 ply for truck use, the same Blizzak handling.
