(New) TPMS question‼️

Hi all!
I’m in the dreaded “mid-2025 build year” and trying to source the correct tpms units for a new set of wheels. After no solid info from tire stores or the dealer, I bought some dual-mhz sensors and an activator tool.
My question is would it be possible to test them before I have the tires mounted up? If I have the units in hand, the truck turned on, etc, I’m hoping I can get the truck to see them.

When I had a spare tire mounted with new tpms, the tire store was able to read the frequency of my existing tire tpms

So I would ask if they can do that

I was told by the tire store there was conflicting information in their computer.

Should be 433MHz I believe

Yes, I think they can setup their TPMS scan tool for your vehicle info and read the sensors Of both the OEM sensors and your aftermarket sensors.

I was thinking dual frequency sensors still need programmed.

Which I was thinking it required a Like brand TPMS tool.

Ie. I own a Autel TPMS tool which I can program Autel TPMS sensors.
Mine is several years old, I am sure some things have changed.

Nice, thanks for the input! I keep forgetting the spare, and that it will have a sensor as well (with my luck, Ford included the different sensor on the spare than what the main wheels have, lol!).

Does the system in the truck track the psi level on the spare? I've never looked or noticed it show up on the display...

The factory spare does not have TPMS. It does not track the spare.


The spare isn’t even the same tire or rim unless you have a raptor

If you have a fifth wheel like I do with TPMs, when you rotate it in, the truck will automatically start reading after you make a trip or maybe two,


And you should practice lowering the spare before you get a flat.

I recently purchased a new set of Alligator TPMS sensors and Falken tires from Americas Tire (a.k.a. Discount Tire in many parts of the country) for a second set of wheels. The wheels were brought in loose for TPMS install and tire mounting, and carried out loose in the back of my truck. Americas Tire never programmed the TPMS sensors near my Ranger or through its OBD port. Yet once I got home and bolted up the new tires/wheels, my truck started reading the new TPMS sensors just fine......no warning lights/error messages of any kind.
