Pirelli XTM AT 285/70r17 E tires on Ranger Raptor

I traded in my KO3s a week ago for a set of the pirellis to see what all the hype was about. After a week of driving on them I can say whole heartedly that these are the best AT tires I’ve ever experienced. They ride extremely well, I would say they feel like a standard load tire but they have all of the strength to get that E load classification.

Noise level: silent. I mean from 1mph all the way to 100 mph (in Mexico) they are dead silent even with no sound deadening done to the truck.

Took them to the beach this weekend never aired down or anything but left them at 35 psi and they did absolutely phenomenal. I would almost say a more controlled feeling than the stock ko3 tires.

on road my mpg went from about 16.1 average to 18.7 because they are 4 pounds lighter than the stock tires. I weighed them at 52.7 pounds. They balanced beautifully as well.

Wet traction: I’m in south Louisiana and we had a tropical storm this past week and they felt extremely planted. My wife said they felt like glue and felt comfortable driving them a little more aggressive than the usual ice skates that come on these trucks stock. All in all I am very happy with my purchase and when they release 35’s in this tire I will be going that route as well. I’ll also be getting the pro cal tune installed this week as well and will give updates on mpg and launching the truck after installation.

Thanks for posting. They sound like a winner so far! Please keep us posted as you put more miles on them, specifically noise and traction. After 6K miles on the KO3's (very spirited driving) they have gotten loud enough to be annoying.

Awesome! I am very curious as to the road noise long term. I'll need new tires later this year and am very interested in these vs the Wildpeak AT4W. Id say 90% of my driving is on road in Texas so road noise and wear are my main concerns.

I haven't noticed my KO3s making highway noise, but I have only 1500 miles on em.

I put 12k miles on my ko3 and they did get extremely loud around 8k miles

Does the Pirellli's look wider than the KO3s? I think I saw that even though it's the same tire size, the tread width was wider. These are definitely on my radar after my KO3s depending on the prices out there.

I would say they are about .5 inch to 3/4 of an inch wider than the OE ford tires

These will likely be my next tires... but DAMN they are salty. I know tire prices keep ballooning, but $400 each? Ugh... remember when tires were $400 for the SET??

If the rest of the tires life compared to the first week I will say they are well worth it

The OE KO3's are supposed to be 8.8" wide while these Pirellis are listed at 9.7", so 9/10" wider tread.

I've heard the 305 width is the sweet spot, size wise. I am off road seldom, but I was in the dirt a few weeks ago, and my RR was so happy out there. ReaLITY FOR ME IS I my RR will spend most its time on pavement. Will probably run these Ko3s out, maybe look at some same / similar sized Michelin LTXs or......?

I told ya'll so. I was one of the first to call it the drivers tire for AT tires. Once my KO3s are worn down more Im going XTM without question. From a performance standpoint they are the best off road focused AT tire on the market now.

Here's the thing, the wet traction is so good on the XTMs it was nearly as good as all seasons. Thats pretty impressive on road performance for an AT tire, especially an offroad focused one.

I really like the looks of the KO3s and I think the XTMs look just as good with a similarly aggressive sidewall (which functionally is what gives you traction in deep gravel, loose dirt, mud and sand).

The more in line tread pattern works a lot better for steering precision and lateral traction than the s-curved tread blocks on the KO3s without giving up similar forward bite, thats where the XTMs also outperform the O3s, just as good of dirt traction but with better precision and predictability.

In the wet onroad, they are untouchable by other AT tires, you would need to change to an actual onroad all season to get better wet traction. I would imagine that also translates well to better traction on smooth rocks, especially after or during rain since onroad traction mirrors rock tractions.

In snow they trade blows and sometimes surpass the KO3s and in particular the Nokians which are known as strong cold weather performers (testing shows the XTMs overall best both the Nokians and KO3s in snow).

XTMs are the way to go for AT tires from pure performance standpoint. Period. The performance is worth the price of admission. Its kinda like the Pilot Sport 4S of offroad tires.
