i disagree. I had Hot Pepper Red on my Bronco Badlands and it looked awesome covered in mud lol. If it had been available for my RR i would have bought it without a second thought. i love that color

Ford definitely needs to keep and add some cool colors instead of taking them away and replacing them with only grays and other muted colors.

Ford specifies a Water Fording depth of 33.5"....are you suggesting they ONLY thing they tested was for hydro lock of the motor (water ingestion) and didn't consider the height of any of the breathers in water fording...?

The tires alone are 32.8" tall when new, so your talking water past the top of the tires before you need to worry about that.... anything lubricated by oil is hermetically sealed, otherwise the lubricants would leak out and become rapidly contaminated just by rain / sleet / snow even on paved roads with puddles.

This is a high performance off-road truck, trust me, it can handle some 12 in puddles of mud.

Amen. There is some truth to all the splashed around water and vapor (and that's only a worry for the motor) getting you closer to hydrolock. But I would go into an event like this with a clean filter and replace it right afterwards.

The closest I've actually come to hydrolocking the engine on this was well after this event... I forgot to stuff a towel in the intake and sprayed down some parts of the engine bay with a high pressure wand (obviously didn't hit the air intake itself) . Soon as I remembered I'd f'd up, I stopped the truck and let it dry out a fair bit before going home and then changing the filter (which was already dirty from previous outings). It surprises me how I can't find the engine air filter locally for this thing anywhere but from Ford dealers.

Yah, I changed mine after doing a bunch of dusty gravel roads, the OHV park, Baja in my uncle's corn field last week etc. It wasn't the worst I've seen but definitely needed replaced so I did it with this last oil change even though I'm only at 19.5k miles.

Filters are cheap, just replace them periodically and be careful to thoroughly suck out any mud that might drop down into the passenger side turbo inlet. I've not found an easy way to get the filter box open without disconnecting the passenger side turbo inlet hose (i.e., the bottom one).

I was thinking of maybe wrapping foil tape around the passenger side turbo inlet clamp / junction where it connects to the airbox for next time, so any mud / dust / debris won't fall into the rubber pipe as it will accumulate on the tape first, which you then remove and discard.

Just take the tape off with all the mud on it and the pipe / clamp underneath will be clean. Foil tape can handle the temps.

BTW, Rock Auto has air filters for $12. I buy the air filter, oil filter and MC 5W-30 Full Synthetic there. Motorcraft just released their latest GF-7A spec oil too, the prior oil change MC was still shipping GF-6 spec. Latest bottle listed GF-7A, so nice that our RR's will live most of their life on 2nd gen oil spec which targets a lot of issues that were experienced by Ford and others who were early adopters of Turbo engines on GF-5 spec oils that weren't up to the task.

GF-6 was the first-generation specification targeted and TGDI engines for reference.

Thanks for the rock auto pointer. I guess my problem was that I was trying to replace the filter on a Saturday evening and no non-dealer location had anything for the ranger. Dealers were of course closed till Monday.

Glad you're enjoying the truck.

Also, glad I didn't buy any of the used Ranger Raptors I was looking at 😂

Haha, fair enough. I use my cars well but I also maintain them well before and after. It doesn't hurt the truck. In some cases, better a ride that has seen some use and not broken.
That being said, I think you can get great discounts on a new RR over what people seem to want for a used one.

I'm just poking fun. Some people will buy the RR and the extent of its use is Costco and Church.

Yessir, the mall-crawl-special.

The funny thing is that a mall-crawl Ranger Raptor (it was spotless and definitely never saw a tough trail) that I saw in the town of Snoqualmie (but with a lot of mods, in cactus gray and a chase rack and lights) is what inspired me to finally take the idea off the back burner and get myself one.

I didn't take any pics but I did two recoveries yesterday, and my truck was perfectly clean before, but pulled an Amazon van out and some teenagers with a busted transmission.

I'm a little OCD though, so just thinking about all the salt on the truck now 😖

The best part of doing donuts in the field was that the garage smelled like a campfire until I cleaned out tons of mud and wood chips from the underside. Like several garbage cans full of it thanks to the extra armor underneath haha.

SEND IT! So far the craziest thing I did was jump at 84 MPH...long, low hill off-road (farm field), so you needed some speed to get any air, but it was FUN .

The wife was with me and didn't know I was going over a jump until all the sudden she felt the seat move under her as we became airborne. We both just busted up laughing.

People bring theirs to Costco? Too risky, don't they know there's other cars and shopping carts there?

The first place I tried the autoparking on the truck was at a busy Costco lot. Not my best decision, but it worked (and parked a little closer on one side than I liked) 😅
