All this labor intense and techs damaging other components just to install a 12 bucks part.

I don't care how cheap it is or how labor intensive it is. They'll do it for free; it's their dime. Any damage to molding or headliner will also be their time and money.
And if I'm right, even if you do it yourself, the records will still show an open recall.

Correct. If it wasn't for that I'd do it myself.

As for their time and money, that's also time away from my truck, which sucks. OK if you get an equal or better loaner but seemingly rare these days. An inconvenience at best, a total nightmare with repeated trips to the dealership at worse.

Shouldn't need a loaner for 3 or 4 hours of work. My dealer will pick up my truck from work in the morning, then return it later in the day when done. If they can't get it done in that time, it's not getting done. I'm not leaving it there 2 or 3 days until they 'find time' to do it.

Not every dealership is created equal. I envy those with competent dealerships.
