I actually had considered looking into billet aluminum caps(though the cost for custom caps would be huge)as the stock pre26 caps just crush down too much and they don't allow thru access to the many 8mm welded nuts under the rails. I've had the stock caps on and off a couple times and it doesn't do the many clips any good to be pulled or pushed, each one needs to be re-formed after and it's hard not to half break at least one or have one snap off. I do wish there was an aftermarket option available for the 24-26+ with at least solid material.
Looking around I'm not able to find the 26my redesigned caps part number, they look to be in the $170 each range for 24-25. Take a look at this item page stating the part can't be re-used/reinstalled...lol! Certainly it will never be the same after but it's definitely possible to do it and not be able to tell it was reinstalled just looking at it from the outside, at least one or twice if very careful
No idea if they are backwards compatible, but if they are keep in mind you'll also need a new tailgate top which is probably even more than the side rails.

An offering made out of aluminum with countersunk clearance/thru holes for the 8mm under rail nuts would be awesome, bolt on/off with no clips and nice solid mounting surface. If they could be e laser cut with edge contouring/finishing it could actually be done at maybe close to the cost of OEM at $350-500. If they were fully CNC'd from billet that might be double that at ~$1k? Not too sure but seems in the ballpark and would be so cool to see that designed
so alu cab makes one. it’s part of the fitment kit for their caps. all it is- aluminum with the bed profile on top with a 90 degree lip on the inside.
