I have a 24’ RR, maybe trading for a big boy Raptor.

The problem: The F-150 was a demo truck (USF head coach) and has 4k miles and he didn’t follow the manufacturer recommended break-in.

I know this is a highly produced engine and not some rare hand built custom that has to have a very specific break-in, but if any true motorheads can give me some guidance/real-world experience about these 3.5s and what kind of longevity issues I’ll be facing or if it’s no big deal…

Thanks in advance team RR-

There's not much to the break in period. Normal driving, really. I've never done it.
As for the 3.5, my brother had an F-150 with close to 250K miles. Only major repair at around 200K
was the water pump. At 250K, the trans wouldn't go into reverse or shift into OD. But he never had the trans serviced as long as he had it.
There's not much more I can say about it.

Breaking-In

You need to break in new tires for approximately 300 mi (480 km). During this time, your vehicle may exhibit some unusual driving characteristics.
Avoid driving too fast during the first 1,000 mi (1,600 km). Vary your speed frequently and change up through the gears early. Do not labor the engine.
Do not tow during the first 1,000 mi (1,600 km).

What do you mean by "didn't follow the manufacturer recommended break-in"?

There's degrees of this stuff. 'spending too much time on the highway at exactly 2000 rpm for the first 1000 miles' is very different from 'nothing but 0-60 pulls in sport for the first 1000 miles'.

I'm assuming it's a new-ish gen 3 if it's only got 4k miles on it...if so, reliability should maybe be better than gen 2s, which were known for a couple of issues (cam phasers, sunroof leaks, oil pan issues)
