I've put about 10,000 miles on the truck and overall I like it. The only issue I've had is this: when accelerating up through gears 1-4 the truck has some minor/annoying issues.

1. Sometimes it will hold onto first gear too long. Usually during warm up
2. Overall, there is significant pedal delay between pressing the accelerator and the throttle opening up
3. When it is running up through third gear at various rates of acceleration, the throttle will dip. It isn't trying to downshift as far as I can tell (I've verified by watching the gear indicator on the instrument panel), it sounds like if you were easing off the accelerator except what I'm actually doing is holding constant acceleration. The more open the throttle, the more pronounced the dip

I've taken it into the dealership (Bergstrom Ford, Green Bay) three times to address this issue and every time they've just loaded a new adaptive relearn profile which has done nothing. They say that next step is rebuilding the transmission to some degree. I really don't think that is the issue. Seems like a software issue to me or something electrical between the accelerator pedal and the throttle. Mechanically everything shifts smooth.

Has anybody else dealt with similar issues?

For point 1. The raptor does that to just FYI. Once it warms up or I increase the throttle enough itll shift normally.
Point 3, maybe traction control. Can you get a video of it.

I have a similar complaint, there is a dip in power off idle when accelerating from a stop, most noticeable in normal mode. It ducking drives me crazy and i hate it. gotta be ford BS to meet Mileage standards. Not there really in sport, but in Sport, the pedal is insanly mapped. what i did was go with a Bank Pedal Monster, there's alot of options to play with. Right now i'm in City mode, +6bars (out of 10) with tip in control desensatized at level 3 (of 5 ). Almost like a throttle cable. I'm also hoping the new Performance tune will also cure these issues once it's released. But the Banks has made the truck very drivable.

In the raptor, with the tune, its still there. Its just a throttle response thing in normal mode.

Agree it is super annoying. I was going to look into some aftermarket options so thanks for the tip. Wish we still used throttle cables, hate ETC

Hi Josh! I can look into your Ranger's shifting concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Ranger's VIN?

Update: took it to the dealership twice with the same complaint. They're basically just saying its a feature not a bug. At this point I'm just going to buy (already on the way) the Banks Pedal Monster as you mentioned and see where it takes me. If it's really "supposed to be that way" then I'm disappointed that is the product they are putting out there with respect to this specific issue.

I totally agree with you. I had a 20 Ranger FX2, it had the same issue. I used to drive it in tow mode to avoid that issue. There's a guy that installed the new performance tune in a different thread, he said it seems to cure that issue. down side is You're paying for super everywhere you go. I'm pretty happy with the results I got from the banks. It's not perfect, but Truck is drivable, pedal is a bit on the sensitive side. But that dip is just garbage. mustangs have the same engine, I wonder if they have that issue as well? I may go with the Tune, but for now I'm satisfied with it.

It really is garbage and i can't think of any good reason for it to be like that. I can shift better with my manual Jeep. Annoyed with the dealership too. They can look at the data if they wanted to and you would see the dip before the shift. To say that's normal is very annoying

Any updates from anyone on this thread regarding this issue? This happens to my Ranger in third gear only. It's very subtle, and seems to happen most often in Normal mode even with manual shifting.

I have no update besides mine still does it and yes it is always in third gear most of the way to fourth. They basically told me it’s a feature not a bug which I was not pleased with. Very annoying and downgrades the driving experience for me

I installed a Roar Pedal (similar to Pedal Commander and the Banks version). I have it set to Sport 3, which is one level up from normal. Throttle sensitivity improved enough to allow for faster downshift (and out of converter lockup) with less throttle. Roar Pedal is about $170.

I had a roar pedal on my 17 nissan titan. It worked great and was way less then a pedal commander

I've pretty much beat it with a Banks set to +6 in City, with tip in desensazation at 3 of 5. In Eco it's about what a normal pedal response would be and in Normal it's very aggresive. The stock pedal mapping and engine response is the worst I've ever had in any vehicle I've ever owned. Pure sht. The Banks and the adjustments make it 90% better. WTF is wrong with Ford I do not know.
