I just did the Side Curtain Airbag recall this week (25 Ranger Lariat). I picked the truck up at the end of the day, so it was already getting dark here. The next day I noticed a several inch crack in my windshield near the top of the A pillar. The crack originates at the side of the glass (see pictures) and I definitely didn't get hit with any rocks on the 5 mile drive home from the dealership. Is it possible the the recall repair could have done this? When they pry off that interior trim piece, is it even possible to generate sufficient force to crack a windshield?

Oh no! That's why I think taking lots of pictures before you hand over your expensive vehicle to any dealership is probably a good practice. Might be tough to prove. Best of luck to you.

Finally brought the truck into Ford, they determined the airbag shields were missing, and the truck was "in recall" for repair. This was 7AM, and now it's the next day at 11AM and they still have my truck. BUT...I had added in a warranty issue for repair. The serpentine belt was showing very rough wear all along one edge, either from a misaligned pully or probably happened after the A/C belt flew off and was destroyed right after I purchased the truck last year. I didnt notice the fraying until a couple months later (why would I check new belts, I guess I answered my own question....lol)
Hope they dont have it too much longer, I miss my truck!

Got the Lariat back around 3PM the following day. Side curtains were replaced, no evidence of any damage other than very minor looseness on one end of driver side trim, actually I might have done that myself when installing dash cam. (they also did not disturb my cam wires, as it is still working.)
OK now for the WEIRD thing. They also replaced a pulley, the serpentine belt and A/C belt (2nd time for A/C belt although it was fine, I guess since they were down there). But I SWEAR, when I drove away the truck felt like it found at least 15 more horsepower. I first thought they test drove it in SPORT mode, but NOPE, still in NORMAL. I can only guess that the belt and bad pulley were causing some parasitic HP loss. Absolutely stunned. I gotta check MPG for gas mileage now, I bet it went up a little. Lucky me.

Did they say why they replaced the side curtains and not just put the shield in.

I tried to schedule my recall and the dealer told me I needed to show up in person to get the parts ordered. They would not allow me to schedule the appointment in advance over the phone.

Has anyone had this happen or is this dealer specific.

not i. i had a few recalls on my 04 ranger, shoot, it still has an airbag recall, but i just call and they say come in on this day. i think they just recall the takata (i think that is the brand) airbags every x number of years on a rotation so my truck has to go in regularly.

Got the side curtain airbag recall done today by my dealers mobile tech. She took less then an hour and did a great job. Both my wife and I inspected the job and we couldn't find anything that didn't look as it did before. I asked if I could take a few photos and she said sure and said I could watch if I wanted. The one picture is of the thin rubber gasket that is places over the sharp part on each side.

Good info. My dealer sent out a notice indicating it could be done through mobile service. I'll give them a call.

Is anyone still holding off on getting the Side Curtain Recall done for fear of the tech damaging the plastics and headliner? My dealer keeps contacting me to get it done but I'm not confident that it will be done neatly and without damage.
For those that have had it done how did it go?
Unless you go to the same dealer where a member had a positive experience, what does it matter? Ask if anyone in YOUR AREA had a good experience! Who cares if someone was halfway across country...
