Hey guys wanted to share my Stealth Camper setup:

Just saw this clean maverick running a similar RTT setup, and it got me thinking about the benefits of keeping things low and smart. Instead of building a skyscraper on the truck with a go-fast camper, I keep mine folded flat in the bed under a tonneau cover. Don’t get me wrong, it looks cool… but I’m really happy I went a different route with my iLander tent.

Big advantages:
  • Stock height = way better aerodynamics and fuel economy
  • Lower center of gravity for confident handling, especially off-road
  • Fits in my garage without drama
  • Tent stays clean, dry under the tonneau, and secure when not in use
  • No wind noise or swaying at highway speeds
  • 5 minute setup but zero daily visibility
The truck still looks factory and mean, but I don’t have to live with the compromises of a permanent rooftop castle.

Neat idea!

I think I would make it so the wood supports would slide out like drawer slides and support the weight over the tail gate.

vice using webbing to support a half closed tail gate.

Dude! That is way better than on top. I always look at the bed tents but this is way better

So, where do you keep all your camping gear? Surely not inside the cab….

How much room is under the tent, and do you have a bed slide?

I am not seeing how this could possibly be practical….

There's more than enough room for all the gear, my wife, our 70 lb dog, and me.

There are some compromises, but if I cared about carrying more "stuff," I'd get a full-size truck.

Here are some images of the build. There is also a decent amount of information in the video I linked. The platform under the tent measures 43" x 48" x 9.5". I use a simple soft roll-up tonneau cover from Mostplus. Under the tent, I have a large storage tote that measures 40" x 20" x 7", along with two chairs, a table, and a fire pit. In front of the tent, there is approximately 60" x 16" x 20" of additional storage space.

This is awesome, and it looks like there's additional space towards the tailgate for a cooler and some bigger boxy items. Love it
There's quite a bit of room; you can store enough supplies for a few days out in the sticks

That is so sweet. I may do that someday. My wife wont csmp anywhere but a hotel so who knows if i will ever get to actually go but hopefully. I want to travel big bend's ghost towns and you have to be able to support your self for a few days and this looks like the way to do it

So awesome. I’m jealous I didn’t consider this for my upcoming road trips. It’s not too late to pivot I suppose, but I’ve already ordered an overlandish solo hub tent to put in the cab and have dustproof storage for the entire area under the bed cover so…. :/

you’ve given me something to think about!

Nice! I really like it. I have been avoiding the rooftop tent setup for the exact reasons you mentioned. It looks like your video link didn't make it into your post.

Terrific idea. Thank you for sharing. Where did you purchase the tent from? I'm seeing some wonky place names when I googled it.

Here is the link. Heads up to give the shipping some time if you decide to purchase
