Ford Ranger Steering assist fault + speedo IMG_6283

Has anyone come across this? Drive ability was not affected, while in park the speedometer will fluctuate from 0-1-2 in a randomized order, speedo on my way home seemed to work perfectly fine and read accurately with my Waze app, I’m going to unplug the battery and let it sit for a hour so see if it’ll reset everything. any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I had the exact same thing happen to me today.
24 Lariat, had been raining heavy outside, parked on a slight downhill slope in a parking lot.

I used remote start as I was walking to the truck. When I got in and closed the door the truck shut off and displayed a message like "vehicle turned off". I thought I bumped something. So I started it again and got the same message as your post. Steering assist fault, service required". And the speedometer was fluctuating from 0 to 6mph I believe, and it slowly calmed down to zero. I turned the vehicle off and on again with no message and drove home no issue.

I have a good OBD scanner that I'll plug in later to see if any codes were saved. Odd.

Another post with a similar issue mentioned a speed sensor fault caused this.

Yup, same symptoms, and I did see it could possibly be a speed sensor issue, I unplugged the battery for around half an hour, plugged it back in and it’s been normal, will keep updating if anything changes

I just experienced the same issue. Had been working fine when driving a couple hours earlier and it was a dry moderate temperature evening. I opened the back door first and when I got in the drivers seat a message about "Vehicle is Powered Off" and alert noises were firing off rapidly. After it finally stopped occurring I started the engine and after a couple seconds got the Power Assist fault message and noticed the same behavior of speedo jittering between single-digit speed numbers despite the truck still being in Park. After some time the alerts stopped appearing so I drove 10 minutes home and it popped up the Steering Assist alert 2-3 times during that drive with no apparent effect on drivability. Got 2 warnings about Steering Assist in the Ford app. Drove it several times the next day and it hasn't reoccurred yet.

Any follow-ups from anyone who did take it in to the dealership for this issue?

Had this happen to me today as well. Drove to a restaurant no problem, went in and picked up my food, but when I started the truck 5 mins later it read 5mph sitting still and gave the steering assist fault. Turned it off and on and it sat at 1mph for a min before settling down to 0 and had no problems from that point forward.

I'm supposed to take mine in for a bad shock next week. Thinking I'll ask them to look at the speed sensor(s) as well.

I forgot to follow up. Ford tech couldn't find anything wrong with it. Told me "glitches happen".
