Just wanted to share with y'all, check out the latest video from Texas Truck Channel where they have a huge issue at their local Dealership with broken wheel studs on their new project Ranger. It's actually TERRIBLE what some of these Ford Dealerships are trying to do to Ford loyal customers. In my short experience with 2 local Ford Dealerships I have seen these RIPOFF tactics myself and that the Dealership was trying to charge these popular YouTubers and experienced mechanics OVER $1000 FOR WHEEL STUDS IS JUST CRAZY! Can we as a community contact Ford ourselves and let them know we DONT APPRECIATE BEING RIPPED OFF BY THESE GREEDY DEALERS? Seriously these guys showed a repair that takes 20 minutes and $16-30 in parts THE DEALER WAS TRYING TO CHARGE OVER $1000 FOR!!! I find this totally unacceptable and I'm going to let Ford know what I think of it. Hopefully we can make a change by letting Ford know this is wrong and unacceptable. Thanks for reading

That's why hub-centric wheels are better than stud centered.

Can you clarify what your referring to as "That"? The particular wheels they are using?

Almost all after market wheels for the RR and stud centric as the hub bore for the RR is a rather rare size. Most of the after marker wheels the RR and made to be hub centric for say a much more available Toyota Tacoma. Thus, the wheels are centered on the truck using the studs and lug nuts. You should use a hub centering ring when running non hub centric wheels to relieve stress on the studs and also excessive vibration for aggressive off-roading is not the greatest when running stud centric wheels without a hub adapter. These rings are very affordable, but if you don't know these exist and they didn't come with your wheels, you probably didn't think to slap em on. Method Wheels for instance seems to include these adapters with the wheels. Some wheels however are very close to hub centric to where there's not enough space to slide a hub ring in it but still leaves enough spacing to not be hub centric.

OEM wheels obviously, the Ford Performance Method wheels, and RTR are the only brands I know that are actually hub centric specifically machines for the RR. I run the RTR EVO6 for this reason and that they are super light at 22.5lbs whereas the stock beadlock are 37lbs and stock regular are 28lbs.

They don't have a Ranger Raptor though
All Rangers have 93.1 bore. Looks like the wheel they are using are actually hub-centric.

28lbs for this one.

You can waste your time if you want. Ford doesn't control their dealers, if they couldn't stop insane ADMs, how do you think they're going to control what a service department charges for a repair.

Unfortunately I cannot speak to their full motivation in regards to creating the video or the direct interaction between them and the dealer, but they did produce documentation during the video to lend some credibility to the story that was shared.

They went to the dealer for a suspension noise not for wheel studs, the dealer didn’t TQ the lug nuts which is what caused them to bend and break….allegedly

That's sus, torqing lug nuts is like the most elementary thing especially with shops with the impact drill already set to the proper torque. They weren't there hand turning it to the point where u could drive it off and not notice.

I beg to differ. I once took my vehicle to a Chevy dealer for an oil change and a tire rotation. They ended up cross threading 2 lug nuts and just completely snapping off another. Don't trust dealers, check your vehicle before you leave.

Love all the dealer hate.
I can tell none of you have ever made a living as a tech.
This will completely crush your souls, there are good, bad, dishonest techs everywhere.

Going to an Independent shop isn't some miracle pill.

thats true /\

i work at the army's version of a dealership, but for military vehicles, and all the bad talk from the units about receiving any part with an overhaul with our depot name on it is a huge bummer. some units say when they see our depot did the work, they automatically send it back to supply. i don;t know what happened that made them feel like that but i know all the shops i was in as a mechanic, quality control, supervisor, or examiner were filled with guys who cared about what they did.

it makes you feel bad to hear that kind of stuff because of one bad apple
