I, too, jumped prematurely from a Transit Connect Wagon that uses the same trans as the Mavericks - the 8F35. Loved that thing for every day in-town living but it was woefully under-equipped for adventures, had like 6" of ground clearance and the trans always had me so nervous. It felt like it was made of cardboard, shuddered when braking, and had lots of bad press for premature failure - like they ALL seem to bomb by 80k miles. For that reason alone I would not ever consider a Maverick. If going for a unibody platform the Ridgeline makes better sense. So far my base model Ranger still feels worth it.

I am coming from a 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor with 40K miles.

It was great affordable small pickup, very capable and useful. I wouldn't say it was fun to drive. The build quality and amount of recalls led me to trade it in. Transmission makes a bunch of noise when shifting gears. I broke the cabin air filter cover notch (flimsy plastic piece). The Maverick drives more like car with better handling. The Tremor did do well on some desert and dirt off roads in Eastern Oregon with decent impact absorption. Driving over 80 mph felt squirrely on the Maverick.

Acceleration and speed, I would give it to the RR. I would recommend a test drive to see if you like it before buying.

If the build quality was better (unfortunately at a ~30K price point nowdays likely not), I would probably get the Maverick Hybrid AWD with a 4K tow package. Then with the extra money saved, get a second car for fun things like a GR Corolla or GR86.

I was between an overpriced, less fun, less reliable than prior gens Tacoma with a hybrid system that does not significantly improve fuel economy, or a Ranger Raptor, so I chose the RR.

The fuel economy and small gas tank on the RR are probably the biggest drawbacks. KO3s are also dangerous on wet pavement for the first 2-3K...

my dad loved his transit but he had to put 2 transmissions and when the second one went, he gave up on it. now its parked in the pasture, a nice white looking little van fading into oblivion

Well there you go. That trans is not meant for any of the work that van was designed for. I honestly prefer the utility of a van over a truck, but it is even harder to find ones with family capacity and any kind of off-road or snow utility. I am in the northeast where that matters. My little Transit got stuck more than once even with snow tires just leaving the inlaw's driveway. What's worse with the TC is they have an odd tire size so you can't fit any AT tires to it. And being an FWD utility van, I had traction issues on my last camping trip as loading the back pulled weight off the front wheels. Sketchy.
I have spent too long lamenting the lack of a proper van in this country. AWD/4WD, small to medium, some rear seats. Like Chevy Astro, hideous as they were. Total utility. Oh well, Ranger isn't so bad!

If you can afford it… why not; life is short. I did the same thing. Happy with the Ranger other than all the recalls. Enjoy!

i really liked the old flat nose looking mid engine vans toyota made in the 80s. i think they even came 4x4 as an option.

That's the ticket! Wish we could still have the nice things.
Had a 91 previa awd (toyota van). Wonderful van, except the 4 cylinder engine was vastly underpowered for the vans weight. To the point of being dangerous re merging or passing. But still running well when I sold it with 250k miles

we had a regular front wheel drive previa when we moved from cali to texas. that thing did run forever and could hold tons of people in. it was a good van for a high school kid to do stuff with all his friends

I have a 2025 Maverick Lariat Ecoboost and I am really considering trading in or selling for a RR. I visited a dealer this weekend and they had two used and one new. I drove both of the used ones and man were they great.

The power and handling really surprised me. My Maverick drives like a car and the RR felt very similar which surprised me. It was easy to drive and the power was amazing. It feels like the perfect amount.

The larger bed will be nice and the better interior quality is super appealing. If I can get a decent amount for my Maverick I think I'm going to go for it.

I drive a 3 month old 25 Maverick Tremor with less than 4K miles and want to trade up to the Raptor for several reasons. But the Maverick will lose almost 8-9 k from its purchase price in the trade. Is the Raptor truly that much worth it to justify the loss, if simply bought for the pleasure of driving and realizing that life is short. Important things for me are the ride comfort for daily commute and rear passenger seats. The F150 is just too big. Thanks for the advice.

Have you thought about selling it privately? Since I had to wait for my new truck to be built and had plenty of time on my hands I went ahead and detailed my trade in to look like new and sold it privately for a lot more than I was going to get for a trade in.

If you decide to do this be sure to figure in the sales tax, when you trade in you don't pay sales tax on that part of the new purchase but if you sell your trade in and put the cash toward the new vehicle you pay sales tax on that money. In my case it was still well worth it. Of course you may need another mode of transportation if it sells before you get a new one.
