My New truck has not been fitted with any trailer wiring (or a towbar, I'm sorting that) so I purchased and aftermarket 7pin plug and harness that splices into the OEM loom. https://www.etrailer.com/question-434685.html

I can see 12v on one of the pins and 9v on another 2 but regardless of lights, indicators being on or off, there is no voltage change at the plug.

I'm still troubleshooting things but thought I would reach out for advice. Is there fuses that should be in place for the trailer wiring to work? or does a trailer module have to be in place before signals get send to the trailer wiring?

Thanks

Should be basic schematics or wiring diagrams all over internet. I'd expect the company selling harness to provide?

You would think getting a basic wiring diagram would be easy but even finding the correct fuse box details for these trucks online is a challenge

So you are after trailer brake controller too? I'm not a Raptor guy, but I seem to recall towing capacity is really low compared to standard truck? For basic towing (check that rating!) you may only need a 4 pin flat harness that splices into taillight wiring: L, R, Brake, running/tail. Would eliminate need to get into fuse box as color codes on the 4 pin are standardized.

Aren't we talking 2 different generations of Ranger? If you are in the UAE, as indicated in your profile, that's not the same truck as the 2013 5G Ranger still sold in North America, which the Curt harness is designed to fit. Since we saw in NA that Ford was able to mess-up the harness in the 4K-option Mavericks, just changing model years, I would not assume the 5G harness would work on your ROW 6G truck.

The more i'm looking into this, the more I am understanding the issue. a 2023 Ranger in NA is not the same as the rest of the world it seems.

I guess the better question is, does anyone know whats required in the way of modules etc?

it might be useful if you explained more details about what exactly you are hoping to accomplish. 1st post says you have a Ranger that did not come with any towing package or even a hitch, correct? Is your end goal to be able to source all exact same components as factory installs and simply bolt them on and have the same working system as the factory would install?

it would be nice to know what components are required to upgrade to a full tow package. (harness, modules, brackets etc)

You are correct, the truck came with no hitch or any of the software that controls towing (based on what I've seen on youtube and the manual.) My truck doesn't have the options available on the screen

Towing packages are simply not an option here so I knew I would be figuring it all out if I bought the truck. I've since fabricated a tow hitch so the physical part is there, I just assumed...wrongly that lights would just be plug and play and that the additions for the software (anti sway, trailer brakes etc) would then require additional modules.

Information on these trucks are scarce and it doesn't help that the NA market has a 2023 model which is the old generation so its been bit of a learning curve.

Thanks

Nice work on the hitch :like: Good information. So, if it was me and faced with unknown ability to fully upgrade to OEM tow package, while only really needing lights for now, I would break up the big project into stages. Stage 1 would be a basic 4 pin harness patched into existing wiring. I've done a few of these over the years and watched U-haul and others install a hitch + wiring on my vehicles when I chose to skip adding factory tow operation on initial purchase.

If memory serves correct (not always 100% reliable) the standardized color codes on 4 wire connectivity are Brown, Green, Black, Yellow. Green and Brown are turn signals. There is a handy test device with 4 Red LEDs that plug into the 4 wire harness to confirm your hook up is correct.

Hope you find that useful and good luck 🍀

Thanks! I tried to keep it as neat as possible, and by pre-fabbing the hitch part I managed the whole build (bumper on, bumper off) in the same day.

Thanks also for the advice. Splicing into the wiring is certainly the old school way to do it (also done it over the years) but rather hesitant to do so when there is an actual plug. Maybe I just get over myself and do it. I was happy to take a grinder to an 8 day old truck!

Realistically, i'm towing a flat deck motorbike trailer so may just wire the trailer lights to the 12v feed coming from the truck and use the tail lights as marker lights. The truck lights are clearly visible and the rules (and how they are applied) here for trailers are pretty lax. It would give me time to look for the proper solution.

Cheers!

Hello Alan,

I have a 2023 Ranger Raptor in Georgia (country). The local version was also delivered without a towbar although I do have the towing features in the infotainment system.

The Ford dealer located an OEM towbar and wiring harness but when it was delivered they checked it on the showroom trucks then informed me the harness would not fit and they are still looking for a solution. Several weeks later I learn the truck apparently has not been wired for towing at all and there is no connection point for the harness. It's hard to believe Ford would do this but that's what I'm told.

I am interested to learn what the outcome was in your situation and whether you wired in the harness yourself or found another solution?

Thanks.
