I love the way they moved the receiver hitch out so you can easily hook up the trailer chains. I hate where they put the 4/7 wiring receptacle. Why didn’t they put it on the bumper like my F 150. Getting Too old and arthritic to have to knell down to hook it up.

I think the full size 33" spare tire prompted that. It was said the back side of the connector would be pretty close if not colliding with the tire. I looked and it seems there's space but there may be minimum clearance requirements for stuff like that.

Uggg - every time I see the rear of your Lariat I sigh that I was too stupid to order the hitch option and the integrated box steps. Things you learn on your first truck buy.

Once you start lowering the tire it swings loose and would likely take the receptacle out as it came down!

Your's came with a 4/7? My XLS came with a 4 pin up under the bumper to where you almost have to lay down to plug in.

One disadvantage of having the 4/7 connector up by the license plate, as I learned the hard way, is that my boat trailer wiring is too short for that location and so I had to buy/make a 4 pin extension for it. I think it actually reached just barely, but got yanked out when making a turn. I suspect others may encounter similar short wiring on trailers that don't reach up as far.

Never had a problem with that. Wires on my trailers are extra long.

I think you get the 4/7 when you order the truck with the tow package.
I didn't get the tow package, so I have just the 4 pin under bumper. I rarely tow, and when I do, it's small loads. But I don't like a ball on the bumper, and the OEM hitch is too expensive (~ $400 - $600), so I am going to add a receiver from Draw-Tite. It's rated for 7500 lbs., and only $152 on Amazon.

I didn't get the tow package either as none of the dealers in our area had an XLT in the color I wanted with it. I bought a Curt hitch from E-Trailer and bought the adapter to go from the 4 to 7 pin hookups. I haven't towed the boat yet and an curious to see how this 4 cyl does with it.
