Good description of that sound and translating it into text. That’s exactly how I would describe what I’m getting too. Temps just got colder here and I noticed it was more pronounced and lasted longer than the usual 5 min. My truck is in the body shop so I can’t get it to the dealer till I get it back. This thread is pushing that in my mind though. Let us know what comes out of the appt.

That’s rough to deal with so early, but honestly you got the best possible outcome. A full transmission replacement at 1,600 miles beats living with a “normal” noise excuse that turns into a bigger problem later. At least it’s documented and handled under warranty hopefully the new unit is trouble-free from here on out. Keep us posted on how it feels after the swap.

Yes I was definitely bummed out about it. Luckily my Dealer (Wayne Ford) did a great job. I've put about 1500 miles on it since the new transmission was put in. The whining is gone but lately in the last 2 weeks my shifting has really deteriorated. I will get random hesitation on the 4-5 upshift and extremely harsh downshifts when trying to accelerate at highway speeds. For example if you just need to pick up a little speed it goes from 10th down to 9th and then decides to bang down to 6th or 7th gear. Hoping I am still in the "learning Stage" with the Trans. We shall see. Fingers crossed because I love the truck otherwise.

You did say above somewhere though that adaptive learning had been turned off, so I don't know that the "learning stage" will improve without that?

My transmission has smoothed out considerably after about 3,000 miles. I will say I still get a barely noticeable whine in low gears at times, and the "clunk & roll" when first starting up, but all in all it's become pretty reliably smoother over time. Maybe you need the adaptive learning to achieve that, don't know.

Yes I think I was mistaken about the adaptive learning being turned off. After posting I called and asked them about it . They verified it was cleared not turned off. I'm glad to hear yours has gotten better with mileage put on it. I will see how mine goes. I've actually heard others say the same thing that these transmission could take up to 5000 miles to smooth out.

Could you hear a noise during idle or just while driving?
Any further updates?

Mine was and is a little whiney at idle. I am sure a little whine at idle is normal. Just the way these 10 speeds are. The pump is driven by straight cut gears and they can be a little noisy. But my original issue was an EXTREMELY loud whine/whistle in 4th, 5th and 6th gears. That is now gone.

I just got my RR last Thursday, and it’s been making these noises since I picked it up from the dealership. Took it back after hearing this whine noise in the post above, dealer is saying it’s completely normal and is coming from either the turbo actuators or the pump - most likely the latter.
Is this similar to what you were hearing or different issue?

I think you are good. Mine is slightly quieter than that I think, but hard to say for sure because videos sometimes make things sound differently. Also it will get slightly quieter as you put miles on it. At least mine has. As long as it is acting ok while driving and no extreme increases in whining volume while driving I say try to live with it for a bit and see how it goes. Congratulations on the new truck!! Enjoy it and keep us posting on the noise.

No hard shifts - drives are smooth and enjoyable as far as I can push it during the break in period. I’ll keep observing the sound and see if it gets quieter - I can’t really hear it after around 2.5-3k RPM. Other than that, really loving the car and can’t wait to really use it.

Thanks! I appreciate it and will keep you guys posted.

Unbelievable
UPDATE #2 Upon further review of the part number for the Trans. They actually put a rebuilt transmission in the truck. I am beyond pissed at this point . Not sure what to do but I can't accept the fact that they put a rebuilt in my truck with 1600 miles

Just wondering if you have experianced any other issues since you posted this. My 2025 XLT (2.7 and 2900 miles) is making the exact same noise. Really only notice it when idling or going slow. Not sure if its getting worse or I am just more sensative to it. When the windows are down or the radio is on its hardly noticable, but with everything in the truck off, its pretty evident.

Thanks.

I haven’t experienced any issues in relation to the sound, the car drives perfectly - although the sound is still there.

I’m still at 4600 miles, I’m going to do my first service soon so will check again with the dealer but they’ve repeatedly told me that it is a normal sound in these platforms and that I have nothing to worry about.

Let me know if you face any issues. I’ll post an update after the first service (notwithstanding the likely & repeated conclusion they will come to, being that: it’s a normal sound).
