Truck automatically switching from 2H to 4H without pressing anything

2025 RR is suddenly,on its own, switching from 2H to 4H without any inputs from me

weather conditions are fine

I turn into a parking lot and suddenly the truck switches from 2H to 4H

I know to press 2H to get it back where it should be

but the wife freaks out

obviously something is wrong

anyone else experienced this ?

I've had this happen on at least 3 occasions since getting my truck in December 2024. It happened most recently two months ago on March 29th. I was just driving normally in 2H (Normal mode) on the highway at 65 mph, then all of a sudden, the instrument panel changes to the yellow colored theme and the driving mode switches to Towing and 4H. Scared the heck out of me bc I was still traveling highway speeds and didn't know if I had just f'd up my transmission.

Didn't touch any controls or buttons to change the settings, nor was there anything that could have inadvertently changed the settings in each occurrence. On all occurrences, the driving mode changed to the Towing mode.

I’ve had this happen 3 times in the year that i have owned my 2025 Ranger Lariat. Each time it will, on its own, cycle through different driving modes and switch to 4wd. A bit freaky but would be hard to nail down an intermittent glitch like this.

Mine has switched drive modes by itself a handful of times over two years and 35k miles. Same scenario, cruising at 70 on the highway then I see the dash cycling through drive modes….. at least the truck is smart enough to not switch into 4lo at that speed. One time it switched from 4auto to 4high at startup. Gave me a trans error and refused to switch out of 4high until total stop and key cycle.

Dealer picked it up and they could not recreate the issue

now, It just happened again ….automatically switched into off road mode

driving 30 mph down the road with both hands on the wheel

I did have it in Raptor mode with the exhaust set to Baja mode

truck suddenly went into off-road mode with both lockers engag and infotainment screen switching to the camera

drive mode said 4H….I pressed the 2H button…nothing changed…I pressed the 2H button 5 times….it would not switch

Turn truck off, open and closed the door and restarted….still in 4H with lockers engaged

I’ve never engaged the lockers or put the truck in off-road mode via the infotainment screen

finally, found a screen that listed “off-road “

tapped it and turned the lockers off

and all was good

I videoed it all from the point to auto switched into off-road mode

calling the dealership tomorrow
