I have been seeing a lot of videos from NextGen about their up graded valve bodies. They claim it's a huge improvement to the stock valve body and has many benefits for the transmisions longevity. Has anyone else looked into this? Is Nate (from NextGen) legit or just selling snake oil? It's not cheap and would more than likely void the warranty but if he is right we will be needed replacement transmisions after the warranty expires.

“The Ford 10-Speed transmission is riddled with highly expensive problems that largely caused by nearly every part of the valve body. This deeply unreliable transmission is a slight variation of the also tumultuous General Motors 10-Speed…”

They make a lot of generalizations about the 10R90, 10R80, 10R60 without distinguishing between them. I think they’re trying to harness anxiety from all the 10R80 issues and conflate them with the others to sell product.

As far as I can tell, the jury is still out on the Gen6 Ranger’s 10R60. Been watching the forums very closely and haven’t seen a ton of complaints - my rig shifts good.

Not a mechanic, can’t speak to the merits of making this mod, but I definitely wouldn’t preemptively void the powertrain warranty (I’m a Ford transmission serial killer).

Not that it means much, but I asked one of the Ford techs making Youtube repair videos his thoughts on 10r60 vs. 10r80 since a lot of his content touches on related issues and he said he had seen none of those issues translate over to the 60 - just occasionally hard shifting. Just another anecdote, made me feel better at least. I have personally been victim of both 10r80 (that one set me back!) and 8f35 issues, so I do pay attention now, but can't seem to lose my faith in Ford.

The key here I think is that the bigger 10r80 issue was related to the CDF drum bushing which allowed a seal to get displaced and starve the drum of oil and tear up the soft aluminum. Ford has since reengineered the bushing so the seal is seated better and the drum is anodized - hardened.

All the rough shifting the whole series I believe does have some relationship to the valve bodies. The site you are referencing claims the valve bodies cause the other issues downstream. That is a harder one to correlate and I have heard nothing outside that site. The valve solenoids are known to stick, but this may be resolved by properly heating up fluids, as it is also meant to operate at a higher temp than older transmissions. Fluid levels seem to also be critical. I have also read that the firm shifting is a strategy to avoid clutch wear, and many attest to better shift feel with a tune.

When legitimate issues hit the web, I think everyone starts having a hard time sorting out what to focus on. I would bet that without their CDF engineering failures, everyone would have called Ford's 10 speeds a win, as the majority of complaints are not critical, but annoying nonetheless.

Hope this helps.

I can't take anyone serious when they say things like that.
The 10R80 has been around since 2017, and is in literally millions of vehicles, most never have a problem.

That's for the 6R80 in F150, 2015-2017

"Ford is recalling nearly 1.4 million F-150 trucks (2015–2017) due to a transmission defect that can cause unexpected downshifts.
2015–2017 Ford F-150 6R80 Transmission Recall
Ford announced a recall affecting 1,392,935 F-150 trucks equipped with the 6-speed automatic 6R80 transmission, produced between March 12, 2014, and August 18, 2017."

Oh, you're right. My mistake.
