Hey all I was in a forum weeks ago discussing tranny issues and more than one other member described the same noise I was hearing when the transmission is cold.

one member described it as a Hooonk, I’d say that is accurate.

In warm weather quiet and maybe only the first 5 min of driving but now that we had a 20 degree day it got loud and took about 20 minutes to stop hearing during shifts (down or up).

I’ve searched the “manual” on the truck, no help locating the tranny dipstick, is this a sealed unit I need to open the fill plug to check?

I had to cut this video way down to get it to load the file. Sorry for the cross talk with my son, you may have to turn up that volume to really hear it.

any advice or shared experience is appreciated.

Why do you think it's the trans? Sounds like something inside. Might just be the recording?

Thanks,

Im not posting this because I was reviewing my dash cam and heard something. The sound that is emitted from the truck while driving has been captured on this video.
I have been hearing it for months (see above) I am using the recorded sound to elicit feedback.

Also notice we discuss the sound on video when it occirs

the sound emits when tranny temp is low, has been worsened with cold temps (I’m guessing keeping the fluid cold). Engine temp does not affect the sound, and it’s during shifts, That is why I’m leaning towards tranny.

I’m taking it in to the dealer and was hoping someone might have some advice before I pay a dealer hours of labor to tell me it’s fine.

Got your message and replied.

Just got back from a couple hundred mile trip. It's certainly getting worse. I now hear it on downshifts as well. It's happening with the truck/trans warmer then it had been.

Goes in tomorrow.

Shouldn't have to pay a thing, it's under warranty.
