Not every aftermarket accessory lives up to the marketing hype. Some small upgrades completely transform daily driving, while others fall apart fast or just weren’t worth the money.
Share your real‑world experience with one Ford Ranger mod:
✅ What accessory delivered far more value than you expected?
❌ Or which one turned out to be a total letdown?
Tell us what it is, how long you’ve owned it, and what made it great (or terrible). Feel free to drop photos of your setup!

The overlanding rack was my least favorite/useless mod. It will get used camping but all the rest of the year it just wastes gas

The Ford rubber bed mat was fine, but in only 5 months it looks really bad. Bubbling, delamming, something. Still functional but an eyesore. Bad buy.

I removed my front sway bar entirely (I also did a couple other small things for ground clearance purposes), and I was expecting it to cause massive sway issues on the road and provide a slightly better amount of articulation. Luckily I found almost no extra noticeable sway on the road and a significant improvement with off road capability. Lots of extra articulation and much better ride quality on rough and uneven unpaved roads. Free, easy and noticeable, bets type of mod around.

Installed Air bags in back to support for when I tow my caravan, changed the ride quality, even completely deflated, limited the down travel severely even fully deflated. Going to remove them and replace with upgraded coils from Eibach.

If I were to start all over, the number one, and first thing I would change is the 22 gallon fuel tank to a larger LRA (Long Range America) 35 gallon fuel tank. It is costly, and not easy to put in, but the increased range is awesome. While running bigger turbos, Intercooler, and tuning, it gives me a driving range of over 550 miles on 93 octane—about 350+ with e85. A Stock truck’s mileage range would be even higher (currently I only get 10-12mpg on e70-e85). Most important with this mod, is the computer reprogramming by Cody Cutforth of Stanghi.com, so all the extra capacity can be shown on the fuel gauge, the “low on fuel” alerts, the distance to empty, and all the trip and mileage calculations it does, work as original.

Another top item would be partial PPF (Paint Protective Film). Only the first 8-10 inches of the hood, front painted pieces of bumper/grill, backs of mirrors, back lower sections of fenders and quarter panels, door edges, rockers, etc. —basically all the areas susceptible to rock chips. (This is kind of important); me and my neighbor both bought our trucks at the same time, I PPFed mine the day after delivery—he did not. I also ceramic coated it—but that just kind of makes it bead water and makes it look shinny all the time. The real thing that makes PPF important is that His hood now has more than a dozen chips all over the front leading edge, a few on the rockers, and a few on the body colored parts of the mirrors—it’s too late to even PPF now as he would have to have panels corrected or repainted first. I do not have a single chip or scratch anywhere the PPF was applied—I do have one chip in the passenger door jam (I think wife’s shoes) that, if I were to do again, I would PPF the inner edges of those jams—it’s kind of hard for a short person to get in and out without foot contact on the painted part of the jam. I did have 2 door edge chips when it was delivered new (the chips were corrected and clear PPF door edge guards were installed over) and the repair was as good and they still cannot be seen.
