Just today noticed my XLT 4x4 making that exact same noise coasting down my street.
This thread was super helpful, so I'm passing on my experience to help others.

My truck made the whirring/whistling noise only after driving for 20+min on the highway. If you only ever took it on short drives, you'd likely never hear it.

I took mine to the dealer yesterday. They diagnosed the problem part as the Propeller Shaft. They ordered a replacement, which should be in next week. Here's hoping this fixes the problem. The dealer didn't get more specific than this, as they didn't pull anything apart. They simply determined that the noise was coming from the aforementioned component. The noise is rotational and when they threw it up on the hoist, they had to engage 4WD to hear the noise because the back tires were no longer pushing the front.

I hope this info helps anyone else facing this frustrating ordeal.

Thank you for sharing this, i never noticed any noise cause it was taken on short drives and sometimes longer but just around town. Recently took the thruway and just like you after a 20-30 min highway drive the noise appeared coasting into my neighborhood around 27 mph. I took a video to try and capture it and will be visiting the dealer next week. Makes the diagnosing a little easier after so many of us have the same exact symptoms. I will updated if anything different is found. It currently has 2,800 miles for reference.

Is this the whine/whistle you guys talking about at idle, or everything sounds normal here?

I hear a whine / whistle, but it’s tied to engine rev/RPM, not vehicle motion so I assume this isn’t the same thing. I have owned / currently own other turbo cars so I’m familiar with turbo spool sound and it’s def not that. It almost sounds like a belt or pulley and I was assuming could be associated with break-in, but will report back after I get some more miles on her (only 150 now).

Not the same, however I drove a different RR yesterday on my lot and did here a whine upon rev, even at a dead stop, sounds like a pully on AC or belt?

That’s what I thought but happens when AC off as well - hoping something related to break in, def an annoying noise but we’ll see.

**Repair Update**

Just to recap, I had this noise after 20 minute drives on the highway. The dealership replaced the propeller shaft at 2200km. This fixed the issue until the truck rolled over 5700km. Now it's back.

Dealership ordered the same part to replace it again. If the part design is defective, it will continue to get replaced every 2000ish km until they release a new part. The dealership said this situation has happened in the past with different vehicles and different parts.

Either way it is very disappointing to deal with from a brand new vehicle. 😕

This mixed with some defective paint has me considering trading it for a different vehicle.

😞😞

TRANSLATION;
The same problem occurs once the engine is warmed up and I'm driving slowly at 20 to 30kmh, which is when I can really hear it. It sounds like a spinning noise under the car and eventually disappears after 30kmh.
It's really like a whistling sound, with only 4,000 km to go.

Another repair update.

The dealership replaced the propeller shaft twice and they both lasted around 2000km before the noise returned(same as the factory shaft). Ford Engineering is now supposedly involved and they are looking at the transfer case as a potential cause. The truck has been in the shop for almost a week now, with no progress.

I called Ford Canada to ask how to get their assistance in offloading this vehicle without losing money, as it is clearly a lemon. Their short answer was that they will do nothing to help you until the mechanics run out of things to try( even though it has been to the shop three times for the same problem).

Will update when I have more info.
