The '24 Tacoma has a very bold styling based on its current look. If a Transformer was a midsize pickup truck, it would be a '24 Tacoma. I always feel the front end (nose) is too pronounced and yes I know the chin spoiler can be removed. The interior with all of its exposed vents looks good but I have doubts about its overall comfort. The elephant in the room.... is price. Can I get what I want in a Tacoma at a reasonable price? Totally unknown at this point. My younger self would really like the Tacoma.
I like the updated Ranger interior and the 12 inch vertical display and it is really nice. The interior looks well put together and the seats look comfortable. The styling is updated to be a little bit more boxy and more like the F150 and Maverick which isn't a bad thing. Not thrilled that the XLT has to use a key in 2024 for ignition (come on Ford it's a no brainer). But my older self (now at 51) likes a bit of comfort and a nice boxy looking pickup truck and I don't want to spend well above 50k. Oh and what about that 2.7L 6cyl Ecoboost? When can I get it and how much will it cost?
Lastly, not forgetting about Chevrolet and Dodge. Chevy Colorado really looks nice to me and still could be an option. The styling actually rivals the Tacoma which is saying something. The interior is the least snazzy of the bunch but is sporty and adequate and the infotainment screen is reasonably sized. If I was more of an off-roader, I think the trail boss is a really good value. Engine power seems well good enough as well.
And Dodge... I wish you had something to offer in a midsize as I would definitely consider it. I often seen mockups of Dodge pickups which look very good, but alas.
So I really could go for any of these trucks. The Tacomas price is a big key to the puzzle for me. If they are at all overly pricey, then I am out. The Ford Ranger is a solid contender with Chevrolet nipping at its heals. And Dodge, please don't wait to do something. Lastly, how my dealers treat me will matter. If I go to the Ford dealer and get much hassle or markup, my Chevy dealer may be more willing to work with me on a Colorado.
