Should we just get a Tacoma?

I’m considering the Tacoma for a bunch of reasons and I’ve driven nothing but Ford trucks the last 30 years (‘94 Ranger SuperCab from Nov. ‘93 - Jan. ‘02 and F-150 SuperCrew Jan. ‘02 to present).

First and foremost is a lack of a SuperCrew/longbed. Second, no Tremor option and a big gap in off-road goods between the FX4 and Raptor. Third, no hybrid option.

With the Tacoma offering 7 trims, 3 cab/bed configurations, 3 engine options (one a hybrid) and auto and manual trans…. Toyota is clearly looking to dominate market share with so much variety. Still scratching my head how they have dominated the market with the outgoing model???…. Not even close to being the best midsize for many reasons.

My only pause at this point in buying a ‘24 Tacoma is what is currently unknown… cost, fuel efficiency and rear seat legroom??? As it stands right now, I’m lean towards the Tacoma. (Looks weird seeing my own writing) ?

curious how you were happy driving those 2 trucks for so long- then BOOM! something tripped your trigger to GOTTA HAVE IT NOW!!!!! Patience is mandatory here to keep from making a purchase you may regret when Ford does finally roll out most all the ROW configurations in the US. It absolutely will happen.

I understand like all newly released items, it will be hard to get. But in southern California I feel like Tacomas are everywhere on dealer lots. I wonder if it's the proximity of the factory in Mexico that is the factor?

Configuration options is certainly a huge plus for the Taco.

Nope. The seating position in the Tacoma and Forerunner's for me is a permanent deal breaker. I love the two vehicles (from the outside).

They've supposedly addressed this in the '24 Tacoma. The seats are higher with more headroom.

I feel like anyone that says they'll be hard to get are up in the night. Even TRD Pros are EVERYWHERE. Yeah, it might be hard at first, but within a year I'm sure they'll be plenty available. When I was shopping for a 23 TRD Pro, there was a waitlist of six months. There are a lot out there because they haven’t changed in a decade. But trust me, they STAY out of stock.

I see where there could be some confusion in my post. I don't think I would be getting a Pro. Those will be impossible to get, I agree. I honestly don't like the styling of the hood and the interior with the seats are a bit much for me.

If I were to get a Tacoma it would be an Off Road with premium package. That is what I meant about saving some money and being able to get one sooner than a Raptor.

Are you kidding me? Your “Got to have it now” comment is way off the mark! I’m still driving an almost 22 year old truck!!! Can anyone blame me for wanting a new one? I’ve been patiently waiting and saving a monthly payment to myself for 6 years this month. I’m the picture of patience.

The only thing I’m open to is the Chevy Colorado (probs not the canyon, cuz upgraded looks ≠ better value)

I have a gmc canyon 2018. GMC has disappointed me, so I wanted to do ford.

The main seller for me is the pro trailer backup assist. Nobody else has that.

so I’ll probs still go for the ranger. I’m not in the market until like 2 years from now, so I’m just observing with popcorn.

I know it's not for everyone, but I think it looks pretty good, especially with the lift.

Maybe, but Raptor orders aren't 4-5 deep yet either. Reality is we don’t even know how many Ford intends to make after Job 1.

My dealer has at least 20 on the waitlist and there are a few other dealers around me with waitlists longer than that. As I mentioned in another post, once these things start showing up all over youtube with reviews and everyone saying how awesome they are, the waitlists are going to shoot much higher.

I expect you’re the exception and not the norm. My dealer has no waitlist.

After seeing the interviews of the UAW workers that alone drives me to Toyota. They'd let their country burn for their own self interests.
