I only have 600 mi on my unit and the other day when I came to a stop I can hear what sounded like a whining noise or a whistling noise. Very subtle from under the hood. Not sure if it's a belt. Hoping it's not a turbo. Thoughts?

I don't know about Rangers, but turbos on Cats can make a whistling noise when you change engine speeds.

Remote possibility it could be front brakes. Try coming to an easy stop, then try an abrupt stop, and see if the noise pitch or duration changes. If so, that would be an indicator for brakes.

Not sure if you have a 4x4, but at 1100 miles had to have the front drive shaft replaced. Only showed up after driving for a little bit, not when cold.

Since I only have 600 mi I don't think it's break related again. It doesn't happen all the time. It seems like once the motor warms up and I come to a slow roll and a stop is when I can actually hear it. It sounds like the jetsenmobile lol and it ends up going away. It's not constant. It really is like a whistling noise

I have a new ‘24 Ranger STX, 1000 miles to Colorado today, and I noticed too at stops. Think it’s the turbo.

STX has a 2.3. RR has a 3.0. Didn't think they would be the same systems?

I have noticed the air vents in the cabin can whistle at times. Maybe try turning the fan speed down next time it's happening as a quick check.

I know it's from outside the cab as the first time I heard it is when my wife was driving it and pulling into the driveway. I could hear her coming down the street. It sounded like The Jetsons LOL. I do not think it's anything inside the cab

I think the noise is coming from the front drive shafts or wheel bearings on my drive home tonight I took a longer drive home with the windows down. The noise appears once the front of the vehicle has warmed up. I have about a 25-minute ride home and it slows down when I slow down. It sounds like a chirping noise but when I put the car in reverse and back into my garage and rev the engine, it is not an engine noise so it has to be something in the drivetrain. Now I'm even more concerned

That is almost the exact symptoms mine had. Drive about 25 minutes and it started acting up. Dealer replaced the front drive shaft coming out of the transfer case. It is more of a whine and I first heard it when I had the windows down going through a neighborhood, so lots of opportunities for the sound to bounce back. Can't hardly hear it on a busy road or with the windows up.

Did that end up fixing the problem? If there's any way you could send me some information that I can provide to my dealer that would be great. I would highly appreciate it. I think that is exactly what the problem is and I think more of us are going to experience it so it's a good topic to have on the top of the charts

Aside from what I mentioned, I did the same as you and verified it wasn't an engine related issue. I took a video one night to document the noise since it isn't there when the truck is cold (posted earlier in this thread). Sure enough dealer took it out, didn't hear the noise. I showed them the video and explained it needed to be driven. So they gave it to a porter and had him drive for about 25 miles on a nearby interstate. Tech heard it after doing that.

It was most evident starting around 35 mph when decelerating and was loudest between 25 and 15 - continuing all the way down to a stop. At it's worst, about a week after I first heard it with the windows down, I finally heard it in the cabin but only because I had been riding with no radio so I could try and get some more info.

Initially, I thought it might be a bearing or at the very least something in the driveline. So far so good with the fix.

Here's the part that was replaced.

So less than 900 miles, I have this issue, and see my other posts, I have the cam phaser issue, taking it in next week, might just ask Ford for my money back.

Hi there. Can you send us a DM with with your VIN and dealership info? I’ll see how I can assist on my end.
