Has anyone received a quote from the dealership to install the J Brace? I know the Ford accessories web site list ~$192 for installation, but my sales rep said that is an estimate and the service department might charge a different price. I have contacted the service department for an estimate, but am still waiting to hear back.

That is only if you buy an Official Ford Accessory that requires it, such as the Ford Camper Shell.

If you are buying a non-ford shell or just want to install the braces, you're paying out of pocket.

That’s how I understand it as well.
‘I would plan to spend around $400 for parts and labor.
Ford really should already have this sort of thing installed during the production process.
‘I really do not see how such an option exist much less is needed for truck to do truck stuff. .

My dealer did not charge a dollar above the quoted price on the website. Whether the dealer than charges Ford more I am not sure but would not be surprised.

The dealer has my wife's Ranger Raptor j braces ordered. Supposed to be here june 26, 2024. She is using her points to pay for them. When I learn how to search these threads and find this one when the time comes, I'll post the cost.....

I bought the parts direct from Ford and then the dealer charged $350 to install them. Probably should have just done it myself, but if this POS bed ever bends in the future, I want the best possible shot at warranty recourse.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll post what I pay when they're done. I feel the same as you as far as having the dealer do them for warranty recourse reasons. I'm not even having a topper put on mine. I just want them there in case something or someone more than 88 pounds gets on there. How the heck would anyone know that you can't put more than 88 pounds on your TRUCK'S bed walls? Ford, or anyone for that matter, should NEVER manufacture a TRUCK where you can't sit on the bed sides! If I helped engineer this thing and I'm reading these posts, I feel very ambarassed and ashamed right now........

that's not really what you can't do. anyone can sit just fine on the bed rail and you're not going to have a problem.

the problems arise when you are offroading on uneven terrain with something heavy on the bedside which hinders the flexibility of the bed. i'm gonna assume you aren't planning to go on an offroading adventure with all your closest friends sitting on the bedside, while you test the truck's articulation.

Directly from Ford:

"These brackets have been developed by Ford to
brace the floor to the wall of the load box to ensure
that the off-road durability performance of the
load box is maintained with the installation of
load-bearing elevated accessories."

My apologies to the Ford engineers. Sorry ?

And no, I won't be going off roading with my buddies with this Raptor, it's my wife's truck. Mine is in line for production. I will be taking that one out off roading with my buddies but not with anything on the bed sides. Thanks for the thoughtful clarification. Greatly appreciated! And again, sorry to Ford engineers for what I said about the design of this wonderful piece of machinery! I cant think of one more way they could have designed this truck especially for me. Great job team!

lol i dont disagree that it's a dumb oversight by ford. just saying it's really not as big of a problem as you're making it seem like.

if you're offroading without a shell -> you don't need j braces
if you have a shell but the truck is a pavement princess -> you don't need j braces
if your friends want to sit on your truck bedrails while the truck is stationary -> you don't need j braces

if you want to offroad with a camper shell/heavy bedrack or your friends want to sit on your truck bedrails while you offroad -> you should get j braces

I guess I gotta learn off road language, lol. I don't remember the very first post about J. Braces, but I don't think anyone explained it the way you did. Would have been a good idea for the novice people like me.

I was looking at the thread "J-Braces required for a hard tonneau cover?" and I noticed you posted on that thread and it sounds like they dont have a clue what exactly they are needed for as well. Maybe you can give them your expertise of the purpose of j braces?

So if FORD is too cheap to install on all trucks . . .
The brackets should be factory Included on FX4 if not all 4x4
