So if FORD is too cheap to install on all trucks . . .
The brackets should be factory Included on FX4 if not all 4x4
realistically i'd guess 95% (or more) of ranger owners will never find themselves in a situation that a j-brace matters. very few owners will even take it offroading and even less than that will be offroading with >100lbs above the rails.

then it becomes a question of: should the price for all rangers be raised by $200-300 so j-braces are factory standard, even if the vast majority will never require them?

people on this forum already cry and complain about the price of these midsize trucks, so that's probably why ford was reluctant to force that price increase when we're all already hyper-sensitive to prices post-pandemic.

pick your poison. personally if i'm not going to get a camper shell, I'd prefer to save a few hundred dollars and not have that be forced on me from the factory. the j-braces are essentially free if you decide to get them, because you can pay with your fordpass points that you get from buying the truck.

Apologies if this has been answered before. Is the J brace kit needed for the Ranger Raptor?

"non-Raptor Models" in the description.

Ranger 2024 Load Box Reinforcement Kit for non-Raptor Models | Accessories.Ford.com
There is a Raptor specific version of the braces available.

That is only if you buy an Official Ford Accessory that requires it, such as the Ford Camper Shell.

If you are buying a non-ford shell or just want to install the braces, you're paying out of pocket.
How does this work in terms for ford paying for the installation of the j-brace? do they reimburse you later or does it get deducted when you purchase the required accessory and j-brace from the ford accessory page, thanks.

My dealership quoted me $192 for installation based on accessories.ford.com. But they also said it is backordered with no estimate for delivery. Would be awesome if an aftermarket vendor developed a version.

Is the J-brace only needed if you are off-roading with weight on the bed rails? I have a EGR Rolltrac and Kuat Ibex I am dying to install.

I had mine installed at the dealer. It wasn't cheap and should come with the vehicle.

I concur, it should not be a required add-on. None of the other brands need one.
Engineering fail on Ford's part.

My intention was to add this to the discussion not to reply to a specific post. But if anyone is interested. An Aussie modified his Ranger and installed them himself, it was not technical at all, but the wheel well plastic guards had to be removed, getting up into the opening to install. If installed during the build, it would cost much less than having to go back and do a rework. Seems many accessories are just the big dollar items, heated this and that, upgraded sound systems. Power this and that. It's very trivial not to be added during the build. IMHO
