Didn't see much here or on search about CARS and EWAFS so:

After getting blasted by AC on the morning commute, disabling CARS stops the shenanigans with the recirc door opening on its own. I'm all for fresh air but not when the truck decides it should be when behind a 1995 landscaper truck with a bad cylinder 🤣

As well:
Setting the windshield mounted HTS to temp only (HS not present) appears to disable the EWAFS routine of auto A/C. 23 and earlier had a specific bit field option for EWAFS but 24+ does not. I had a feeling this might work after a fellow on the F150 forums had luck when he removed the HS signal wire from the HTS cable.

Both options are in the HVAC module under human readable mode, and line up with the existing 2024 F150/Ranger indexes.

Humidity & Temp Sensor. It's under the black louvered cover behind your rearview mirror. That's what Ford calls it in their tech info and in Forscan anyway.

EWAFS is Enchanced Windshield Anti Fogging Strategy, or Ford's take on automatic windshield anti fog. Great on paper if you just set the HVAC to 70 and don't like worrying about recirc or the AC running on it's own. Unless it actively bothers you, I'd just leave it.

For me I often run the blend door full open (Lo on Hvac) with recirc off on the morning commute at 0600 when the air is nice, but if the car thinks the humidity got a touch high, it would kick on the A/C and freeze you out. Personally it seems to be reeeeaaally touchy, but I'm also from VA where it's humid as a baseline : )

Telling the HVAC module the humidity sensor "Not Present" stops that behavior. There's actually CAFE disclosure from Ford where they reveal the intent was to fix what they thought was everyone just had their A/C on all the time, and to improve that to get a few CAFE credits.

Kind of a nitpicky thing really, but also super annoying if you fall into an edge case where it's in the way.

that why mine does that. i like to just run the vents too because the morning temps are ok but it always seems to turn the ac on. i couldn't figure out why. its super humid here too and my windows are always foggy.

so i can go into the spreadsheet and find where it talks about those settings under the hvac module and turn them off and stop that problem?

Bingo. I used the 2024 F150 indexes, but I checked the Ranger sheet for this thread and CARS/HTS options are present.

The plain english options in Forscan are present for CARS and Humidity Sensor and work.

Otherwise it's under 733-01-01-xx*x-xxxx for CARS
4 to 0 for me. No eHeat or UFCS. My guess is those are Lightning options.

733-01-03-xxxx-xxxx-x* for the FICTS (front inside cabin temp sensor)
Mine was A to 2. Ie Humid+Temp to Temp Only.

I'm still logging to make sure it's truly turned off since there are temp ranges where EWAFS actually does anything (below 65F exterior AFAIK), but so far disabling CARS stops the recirc door games and changing the humidity sensor to Not Present stops the EWAFS activity. Note that disabling _just_ CARS still allows EWAFS to flip open your recirc to outside air.

EWAFS is _supposed_ to stop fogging but it was fooled a few times for me too. Easier to just use the two braincells I have to turn on outside air and or A/C on my own IMO 🤣

so it wasnt just me, I thought it was just my 25 xlt forscan wouldnt write too. any bcm non asbuilt changes would come up "service interrupted" but other modules I could change settings. lol

Plot thickens on the EWAFS front.

Tested a different case today of wanting heat & AC to deal with a nasty morning and found Ford programmed the HVAC system, AC light on to dry the air, to only turn the compressor on with the temp set warm _if_ you have the system in defrost only.

Any other combination of vents besides _only_ defrost appears shut off the compressor if you have the cabin temp set "warm" compared to interior temp even if the A/C light is on/enabled : (

My guess is they expect EWAFS to do everything else (except it misses the target now and then).
I plan on poking around to see if there's a way to force A/C Light On = Compressor On besides putting the car strictly in defrost vent mode (barring anything like evap coil freezing, ext temp too low, etc).

I would have expected "defrost vent added to current config" to mean compressor on too, but I guess not : ( Has to be _only_ defrost vent

Edit:
Turning the humidity sensor back on, ostensibly with EWAFS too, now allows user command of the AC when blowing hot air. Guessing the HVAC module is handing off to EWAFS then for "hot with A/C" control. This'll take some poking to see if there's a config workaround.

The pre 24 models had an actual EWAF config bit. Kinda missing that now 🤣
