Hey guys! This may seem like a ridiculous post. Picked up my RR today and found it quite awkward to get in and out of it, especially getting out. I definitely left some skin on the running board from my leg scraping against it while stepping out. I’m a bigger guy at 6’2 260lbs and it seems I’m somewhere in the middle of being too tall to just step down and not short enough to comfortably use the running board while stepping down.

I’d imagine I’m not the only one that’s had to figure this out. I’ve had many trucks, some were lifted, that I needed to figure out how to get in and out routinely.

Thanks in advance!

I’m 6’-0” and 195.
I set the #2 memory button on the seat for all the back and all the way down. Makes it slightly easier getting in and out, then I press memory 1 and put my seatbelt on before starting the truck, this way I don’t have to listen to any nannies telling me to put my seatbelt on.

I have the exact same issue with running boards which is why I ordered my XLT without them, not sure if that's an option for you on a Raptor though. My Jeep was the same way, the PO installed running boards making entry and exit a PITA till I removed them. The only trucks I use running boards on are F250/F350s. On the Ranger and Jeep they just get in the way.

If AMP Research has adjusted their powersteps to not damage the Raptor, I would check them out. Might be worth calling them. I have AMP Research powersteps on my 2021 F150 Lariat. At 6'4" myself, they have a low step up and down that is perfect. Wife has bad hips and has no issues. Four years in all weather and not a hiccup. I want to put e-boards on my RR when I get one. There are other companies who make power boards. There is a thread on installing e-boards and rock chipping issues afterwards. I use XPEL PPF and no worries. Congrats on getting your RR!

I too found the RR step height and width very annoying , I did finally get into a sort of semi squared position technique and learned that I really had to use the steps.

Just Never really could clear it stepping over it without scraping up my leg.

I eventually took the steps off my 24 model.
‘I did so knowing I was going to to be putting my rear bulged out fenders right in the line of fire without those steps their to protect them.

I had a PPF coating put on my back fenders to try and protect them, but after a year now without the steps, I do still have some rock chips in my back fenders.

I am planning to keep the steps on my 25 model just for the rock protection they give.

I will just have to get back to doing that odd hop squat maneuver to get in and out of my 25 models.

Takes a while to get use to. I'm 5' 6" and I find it awkward as well. Never had an issue with any of my previous full size trucks. I think it comes dow to a few things. The Raptor is just tall enough to need a step and that step, presumably for clearance, is placed pretty high relative to the truck body, so you get up there and sort of have to duck as you're too high. The other thing, and this does annoy me a bit, is that they cheaped out on the drivers side grab handle for the US (and other LHD countries). They just kept the one on the passenger side, which is the driver's side for the RHD models. Be a lot less awkward if there was something to grab onto.

It is not so different from getting into and out of a Sas Bronco. It does involve a bit of a duck, but that is better than trying to hop/climb in IMO.

That's the first thing I noticed was the grab handle on the passenger side and not on the driver side where it should be.

Do you spin so you’re facing towards the outside of the truck before you climb out?

Exiting is not as firmly entrenched in my muscle memory as entry. It seems like I do something different every time. Sometimes it is the reverse of how I enter. Sometimes it is a partial turn and out. Sometimes I use the step, sometimes I just launch myself out. I never really know how that is going to play out until I do it.

Fair enough! I can see how that can happen.

Good, topic. 6'3" 275lbs. I currently have a 4G Ranger. I have to duck to get in. Head is almost on roof.

I have a 2025 XLT on ordered. I tried getting into a non running board Ranger. Still seemed a bit awkward to get into. The Stock height seems ok. I do have a concern for the side bolster breaking down because of the wear and tear of getting in and out. Did not order the 301A package. Going to order some seat covers this time to protect the seats from the bolsters breaking down or the seat material getting a braided and forming a tear. I hope to keep the truck long term. I ordered the truck without the running boards.
I will have to think about what width of frame slider I will get. Not sure it will be any better to step on and get in. At least a frame slider will not stick out as far as the running board. Yes a grab handle on the drivers side would be useful.

depends how i'm feeling lol. Sometimes i step past the boards, sometimes i step on them but i agree it is very awkward. My Bronco Badlands was similar in difficulty or awkwardness. If those AMP steps would be able to survive more than 2 of my MN winters, they might be worth the money but the salt here eats and seizes the assembly. So annoying.

Yes, they are difficult to use. I’m 6’, so using the means I have to almost squat when I get in. getting out I either bang my head or scrape my back.
Now 1 foot in, 1 foot out, grab the steering wheel and pull myself in. Getting out, spin and scoot to 10 o’clock and use steering wheel to help.
My Moms 88 and can’t get in and out without help. My Raptor is getting a set of Westin dual motor power steps put on right now. With a 7-8” drop they should help her. I will still probably still step over them but I won’t lose the hide off my leg.

I try to remind myself to use the step getting in and out of the truck. That works very well for me but unfortunately I forget to do that about half the time.
it’s also easier on the seats if I use the step rather than sliding off the seat.
