How to prevent Ranger theft? Is your Ranger garaged at night? Do you park in [perceived] secure parking areas?

Holy shit! The world is full of money grabbers and car thieves.

What are our defenses? Buy and drive an '88 Yugo? Not for me!

In reply to another thread, I mentioned a hidden switch that interrupts the fuel pump power supply wire. That's not part of the CANBUS, and should not toss codes and lights.

Faraday bags used in the home? Great start!

So, if I can start my Ranger with the Ford app, why do I need a key? Ok. What about after getting into the Ranger, can the key be put into a faraday bag?

Thoughts? What precautions are you taking?

Key shuts off after a short period of time when not moving, faraday bag not really required. If you really wanted the fuel pump switch would probably work well however.

They arent really stealing Rangers though. They are stealing f150 raptors and raptor Rs because they are the status symbol / price vs risk target. I wouldnt worry too much about this in general any more so then any other car getting broken into for any other reason. You are better of buying a pack of airtags, putting those hidden in the truck and having a means to track it if it were to ever occur.

I have a garage too but not when traveling and staying at hotels which are popular places for car thieves. A friend lost his new truck and attached boat when staying at a hotel, first night out on their family vacation.

When they steal it, and this is first hand knowledge because my cousins f150 raptor was stolen out of the dealership 2 months ago, they turn off the location tracking. The Airtags will work independent of anything going on with the truck and basically everyone has an Iphone, so they cant disable it unless they find it.

Pedal Commander has an antitheft mode, I use it when I have to leave my truck at a hotel.

OP (“embedded rock”) asks a great question that I had also been wondering about. None of the replies addressed it. Does anyone know the answer?

The motion sensor comment might apply here , but what if the fob is jiggling as you drive or it is in your pocket and you move slightly?

A Faraday pouch would solve that issue if the vehicle would still be able to operate safely while the fob is in the pouch.

It knows if it was opened by someone without the key? The only problem with that is I have so many notifications all the time I silent my phone at night so I can sleep. I wonder if there is a way to make the Ford app over ride the silent setting on Android.

Unfortunately, I have no idea. It will alert the app and blast the horn and lights. Found out the hard way…
