Reaching out to the community to see if anyone has had issues or complaints or heard of any running the older version of the FL-2062 now altered and with an “A” added to the end of the Motorcraft part number on the 3.0L Eco?

Reason I ask is I just came across & picked up a helluva deal off an add on OfferUp and snagged 10 of them for $50 bucks. Obviously it’s the older Ford part numbering system since it starts with F4TZ and the new one starts with KU2Z. Dimensionally, hole opening, o-rings the same, both made in Brazil, both state high efficiency & high capacity, but the white elephant is the end caps.

Crazy thing is the older style is actually stamped FL-2062-A on the end cap itself! Kinda wild. And the old filter actually feels thicker & the pleats are more robust. My wondering now is are there filtration ports/flow ports that those end caps will now block in the 3.0L Raptor? Or does the filter flow come up through the center, through the filter, into the housing, and back to the engine or vice versa and the ends aren’t in play at all? Just odd that the filter itself is stamped Fl-2062-A. Kinda makes me think it’ll be okay.

Just seeing if there’s any of you that have heard of a nightmare story/warranty debacle or there’s a Ford technician here that can ward against using the old style of the FL-2062.
As good a deal as this was I have no issue tossing these onto the fire pit
to avoid a massive headache.
Thanks in advance!

Oil filters generally draw oil thru the outside of the pleats to the inside. To me, the older ones look to be better quality and costlier to manufacture.
Ford cheapened their spin on filters about 2 years ago and likely did the same with their entire line. Their spin on filters used to be the best in the industry with the bypass valve located on the threaded end while other manufacturers put it in the bottom of the can, a cheaper design. But Motorcraft spin on oil filters now have the bypass at the bottom just like everyone else and are no longer better than the others.
I think you did good as long as you can use them before they get old enough for the glue or media to deteriorate. Store them in a cool place.

Not saying to trust this GenAI answer, just find it interesting. In most applications in my work, it's pretty accurate, but sometimes can be wildly off.

GenAI said:
✅ Yes, they are interchangeable for the same engine applications.
FL-2062-A is simply the updated revision that superseded FL-2062.

What to know before using them

  • Fit & function: Same dimensions, same sealing surfaces, same application. It will install and seal correctly.
  • Performance: Both meet Ford/Motorcraft specs for the engines they’re listed for.
  • Why the “-A” exists: Ford revised the internal construction (media/end-cap design, supplier changes). This does not make the original FL-2062 unsafe or incompatible.
  • Warranty considerations: Using a genuine Motorcraft FL-2062 will not cause issues by itself, but if your vehicle is under warranty and you want zero discussion at the dealer, they’ll expect to see FL-2062-A on paper.
When I’d say “go for it”

  • You’re doing your own oil changes
  • The filters are new, genuine Motorcraft, and stored properly
  • You got a solid bulk deal (nice find 👍)
When I’d stick with FL-2062-A

  • Vehicle is still under factory warranty and dealer-serviced
  • You want absolute alignment with the current Ford service catalog

From my understanding the new / revised version is a way to reduce cost, not improve the product quality.

Does the media appear to be exactly the same?

I can report that I bought 3 filters claiming to be OEM off of eBay. The packaging was "almost" identical. The o-rings were not identical. Now, the kicker was that the filters were too large in diameter compared to the original that I was replacing. The eBay filters squeezed into the plastic housing with no relief or wiggle room whatsoever. The original that came with my truck at new was smaller in diameter and had room all around it when fitted into the plastic housing. I reported it to Ford and eBay and got a refund from eBay.

I read this old thread in BITOG forum :

https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/motorcraft-fl2062-vs-fl2062a.333396/

They look quite different...

Like you say, the fitness of the end is tighter and the orings as well.

I note that the cage inside seem more robust on the improved version, the media seem a little bit large and longer as the media goes to the end and it's full width, not just I side the plastic caps.

A guy mention it seems to be a shift from a Purolator design to a Mann design (WIX / Mann Hummel). It's true that the FL2062A is very similar to OEM Mann filters on my Golf MK8R. I'm using HU6023Z. The size and canister design differs yes but the filters have some similarities. Thickness of the media is exactly the same.

I think I'll buy Mann or Wix filters now if cheaper than VW and Motorcraft as its their Mann Hummel group Brazilian factory that produces the 3.0 filters.

The filters pleats/media are actually more robust. When you fan the pleats with your thumb they’re thicker & stiffer. You can see the extra thickness in the picture. And the internal cage feels stronger when you grip down on the filter. It doesn’t compress as easily. The new filter w/o the caps you can twist lengthwise that filter fairly easily, not so much the one with the end caps. Filter stays ridgid.

I thinks it’s an overall better & sturdier filter. The typical Ford cheapened up the product line kinda thing on the new ones. Think I just scored a helluva deal on a set on 10 is all.

And to the other comment - these are actual Ford Motorcraft filters (just the older version/older packaging) not clones or knockoffs so they dimensionally mate up 100%.

My 2025 2.7l came from the factory with the older filter. I've ordered a couple of aftermarket filters to try. Most replicate the new Ford filter with no end caps (Wixx and Mann). K&N had no end-caps but had a felt ring around the top. The filter that matched the old Ford design was Amsoil PN: EA15K43-EA. It's pricey, but probably the best built. I think you got a great score!

The older filter looks way better made. I wouldn’t be an in any hurry to use the sad new design.
