A deliberate row of holes below the tailgate?

I noticed that there is a line of holes in the gap between the tailgate and bed. Is there a purpose for those? I wonder if there isn’t a Ranger specific gap seal but I can’t find one. Or am I overthinking something just used for production?

It sure looks like something is meant to mount there, like a rubber seal that has nubs that you press into those holes.

Of course, they could just be for draining or venting, but I’m not sure why you’d need that many.

My thoughts exactly. After I posted this, I thought it could be used for running cables, on either side, but since this is a lariat with many of the options, I’m not sure what it would be used for that I don’t have.

My XL has the same holes. You can see daylight through many of them, so they’re obviously not a vent or drain. I’m still guessing mount.

I suppose it could be something that’s used during the manufacturing process but not functional once the truck is built. Like something used for alignment of panels.

you could probably get some thin foam sheet and push in plastic retainers and make a custom seal.

You wanna see holes? Look at your rocker panels. Mine has several holes the size of nickels.

Those holes are used to snap in a rigid rubber lip on higher pkg.
My WT has this thing installed..useful?not sure but nice

OK after seeing it I'm still not sure what it does. Is it like a tailgate seal or bridge the gap for some reason?

I need a gap seal couple times a year when hauling leaves, grass, dusty rubbish. It falls in the gap and clogs stuff.
