That looks good! What about going to the tall rails and using two of them? You could build a simple tire tray off of the rear rail to secure the tire. You could also mount something like the bike trays as well - https://a.co/d/01Xla0MT
Hi Adventurelabs,

I am not seeing a weight rating for these crossbars, I am planning on purchasing 2 of either the normal or tall versions and placing a rooftop tent on them. Please let me know how much weight I can place on them.

Also curious if you are running any discounts. Thank you

Hey Eric,

Thanks for your interest! We don't have a published weight rating. To get an actual accurate number on that, we would need to destroy a rack and possibly a truck bed. We could guess at it, but that wouldn't do us much good. You can do accurate FEA on these in CAD because you can't get load data from Ford on the bedsides.

We have tons of customers running rooftop tents on these without issues.

This is one of our employees and he is anything but respectful to the truck, if you know what I mean. 🤣

The only discounts we have going right now is the military discount. Our aluminum is up about 30% in the last month, so there won't be any sales anytime soon, unfortunately.

Did y'all get your aluminum from the same supplier that Ford uses, which burnt down?

I don't think so. We get it directly from the mill. Most aluminum vendors are having supply issues right now.

I'm really torn between going with this rack system or a roof rack next. I'm leaning towards this, since it's removable and also more customizable but I really didn't want to change my tonneau cover (it's a 4 panel folder). If I'm able to at least angle up the first panel then this is could possibly work, also wondering if I can enlarge some of the mounting holes and use removable hitch pins to make it even quicker to remove?

Like these-

One other thing that would be a bonus to this rack is if I can mount a bike rack to the sides. Some other companies have universal angle brackets for that but I don't think they'd work with this rack since the sides are vertical. Any possibility for angle brackets like in this sketch?

I like the idea of these, but in reality I think the extra width would be an accident waiting to happen. For example, my handlebars are about 800mm wide, or 16" extra width per side. We're just over 78" wide without mirrors, so assuming the bike wheels are aligned with the side of the fender flares, two of my bikes would put me at almost 8ft! I'd definitely be worried about catching a bar on a limb, or worse, and destroying not only my bike, but damaging my rack and bed as well.

Something to consider for sure. Placing these bars (780mm) here puts them about 7" past the mirrors. The bike might end up a touch further out than that, I would assume 10" past the mirrors.

I don't think hitting branches would be an issue for me at least, it would be mostly highway driving to bike parks. Worst case could rotate the headsets on the normal bikes, can't do that with my dh bike though. My lolo rack puts the bar end about even with the mirror

What about turning the fork mount 90 degrees so that the handlebars are in line with the bike frame? Haven't seen this done, but imagine it would work fine.

That would work with certain racks but the bike racks I would use keep both wheels on

i have some where you remove hte front wheels and they get old. i got tired of it and went to one where the wheels sit in brackets for ease of carrying the bikes
