Hello!

Dealer threw in a spray-in bedliner to my purchase of my 26, but of course, the bedliner shop did not reinstall the torsion bar on the tailgate. I saw in another thread the warning about the making sure the plastic clip on the passenger side where the rod goes into is still there, I still have that installed I believe. I know they took the tailgate off because I had to retighten all the hardware they barely put back on.

Would someone mind taking me a pic of where/how (and with what hardware) the rod installs on the driver side and how it goes on the passenger side? Pics of both sides would be great. I don't want these yahoos leaving off a piece or doing it wrong when I go back....I need to go back prepared! :)

TIA!

Thank you! Took me a min on that last one but I got it.

On the driver side bolt down of the rod, is that a large black washer under that bolt head? Talking about the "base " of the rod where it's looped and a bolt goes through....

Doesn't look like it. Wait, under the bolt head yes.
Painted body steel, rod eye, large washer, smaller washer, bolt head.
I suspect the smaller washer is captive to the bolt head.

Isn't the appropriate move to drive back to the dealer and tell them to unfuck the problem they created?

I agree. But.... usually I can fix it correctly, with a beer :sunglasses: , instead of driving to the dealership, waiting around for an hour or two, without a beer :crying: , while they either do it wrong again or scratch my paint. Etc.

I've had only good experiences with my local Ford dealer thru 4 vehicles (Kendall Ford Eugene OR) but have had mixed experiences (more negative than positive) with all others back to the 80s....

Normally I'd be with you on that, but this looks easy enough to just pick up the pieces from them and just DIY it. Lessen the chance of more fuckery.

Good thing I know to look for those washers too.

Perfect, thank you! Guaranteed theyll have that rod somewhere and magically not have the washers. Bolt is there of course since it goes through the hinge bracket. Mine is installed washer free.

Probably a stupid question. When I saw that rod on my '26 RR, I couldn't see what it does? Please explain.

It helps lowering and lifting the tailgate by adding leverage using the twisting motion of the rod
