This has bothered me since day 1, not sure if it's normal behavior/tuning, but wanted to see if others' throttle input felt the same way.

Have about 2k miles on the truck, FP tuned since a couple weeks ago, and it seems like any aggressive throttle input from a standstill results in a split second of "hesitation" before there's a power surge. It's not turbo lag, it's before they even kick in. Feels this way in normal and sport mode.

Is it traction control (actually haven't tried it with TC off), or tuning to protect the transmission? Even with the FP tune it almost feels like it needs a pedal commander or something down low. Would a ported throttle body help improve this "feel" or is it all in my head?

I have noticed this too sometimes with my truck also on the FP tune.

Stay away from any pedal commander type product. This truck doesnt need it. It may be the truck is still learning after the tune. At best take it to a dealer and explain the problem. They may have a better idea than keyboard mechanics. But avoid the throttle improvement scam. I had a pedal commander on my 2018 toyota, tacoma. It ended up bricking it after 2 weeks. It went into limp mode. Took it off, and the truck ran fine. This is a high performance vehicle with a tune. It doesn't need a gadget to make it better.

I have had throttle response issues and also shifting issues since the tune. I believe I have narrowed down my problems. I think i taught my truck bad habits early in the tune when the truck was still learning the driving and shifting patterns etc. Been living with it for a long while.
I finally decided a few days ago to update my Procal and reloaded the tune. By doing this, it removes all the bad habits and shift patterns. It then learns all new ones.
Since then, I've been making sure to drive real easy for the first several 100 miles making sure not to teach my truck any bad habits., seems all my issues are now cleared up. Will keep you posted

I have also thought this a few times but it is random for me and I wasn't sure. Good information from jburl2. I am going to take mine in to Ford soon for all of the recalls (4 of them). Maybe, I will reflash back to stock 1st and see what that does.

This is interesting because I was told to drive it hard after the FP tune so that it learns more “aggressive “ settings.

Is there a way to do a throttle reset without reloading the tune? Disconnect battery for a bit, etc?

My problem was, I couldn't wait to launch it. Im sure that caused all my issues.
It takes as lot of self control to stay out of it for the first 100 or so miles.
Good luck out there and let me know if this helps

I know what op is talking about, it feels like the whole truck bogs down as a self preservation feature.

Sometimes happens when hesitant with pedal and sometimes when fully committed to the throttle.

Perhaps it is triggered when the truck thinks it is on an incline or decline.

I haven't experienced this at all...

Both my RR and Explorer ST are way better than any other turbo vehicles I've driven regarding tip-in, hesitation and how turbo spooling feels.

Recommend driving any CVT Subaru XT model if you want to know what shitty trans tuning and wacky tip-in is really all about. I about died pulling into traffic a few times when it was new because that frickin car (2022 OBXT) would literally sit there for a full second before doing anything...and its not consistent.

Yes, disconnecting the battery achieves the KAM reset. KAM is Keep alive memory.

  1. Disconnect: Turn the ignition off and disconnect the negative (black) cable from your battery.
  2. Wait: Leave it disconnected for 15 to 30 minutes to ensure all electrical capacitors discharge and the PCM modules fully reset.
  3. Reconnect: Reattach the negative cable and secure it tightly.

The Relearn Procedure

After resetting the KAM, your truck will need to relearn its driving habits.

  1. Start the engine and let it idle in Park (P) for roughly 5 to 10 minutes with the air conditioning and radio turned off.
  2. Turn the A/C on and let it idle for an additional few minutes.

  3. Take your Ranger Raptor for an initial 15 to 20-mile drive using varying throttle inputs and speeds so the truck can properly begin to relearn fuel trims and shift strategies.
  4. It actually takes a lot of miles for the truck to fully learn. Several hundred some say up to 500
My problem is, behaving myself during the learning process. Especially when a dumbass in Tacoma or Pioneer pulls up next to you at a light and thinks they are the baddest shit on the street.

Turbos hesitate. Just the nature of the beast. Got it in my previous two Ford Turbos but my '25 2.3 Ranger has less hesitation than either of those did ('21 Bronco Sport, '23 Ford Maverick 2.0).
