The transmission is still learning, mine was a bit harsh when new now it's butter smooth.
I was wondering if the transmission learning could potentially contribute to what I was feeling. Is that something that would have been reset when the dealership took it in as a used vehicle? Or is that something that I can reset myself?

Dealer might have reset but probably not maybe get them to do it.

OP and I are very similar....I had 3 Taco's (and loved them), but switched to the Ranger XLT with 2.7. It is a GREAT truck. But I paid much more for mine. Of course, it came new. But I would have loved to get his deal for my truck even if it had 2K miles on it.

Yes, according to the Carfax and dealership it was a lease return that the previous owner just didn't like. They had it for only 2 months before trading it in. I still have the remaining factory warranty.
Had a similar situation with my 2025 Lariat 2.7 - previous owner bought it new earlier this year, had it for about 2 months (3,500 miles) and then traded it for a full-size Chevy. MSRP was $56k and I got it for $42.5K.

Also, the truck will skip second gear all the time so it feels really odd

I've been getting comfortable with the Ranger over the last few weeks. In basically every metric it has been a better truck than the Tacoma. I'm very eager to get it off road and camping out in the desert with it soon.

My only observation that I want to ask about has to do with the transmission. I've noticed a pretty minor, though distinct, shaking or shuddering feeling when accelerating between approximately 8-14mph. I believe it's primarily in 2nd and 3rd gears, as I've tried isolating gears with the manual shift function. It seems that downshifts into 3rd and 2nd are also a little harsher than other gears. Does this sound pretty par for the course with the 6th gen Ranger? Or have others experienced something similar that ended up being a bigger issue?

I'm hoping it is just me being a little paranoid having a new vehicle, but there is never any harm in asking!

mine always shifts through 2nd and all gears when accelerating but

I seldom see 2nd gear when it down shifts.

It's crazy that people sell basically a new truck with only 2K miles on it but that's a good deal for you. I've got almost the exact same truck but it cost around $5K more from the dealer. Enjoy!
I've traded new cars/trucks in under a year twice. Frontier - just didn't like it. Maverick - too small for me. It's definitely a score for the second owner.

I finally had the chance to take the Ranger out to Anza Borrego last weekend. All I can say is that this truck is way more fun than my Tacoma ever was. The 2.7 makes drifting in the washes so easy, and the rear locker and off road modes made quick work of the ruts we encountered. We scraped once on a sandstone ledge, but otherwise careful line placement was all we needed.

As much as I want to lift it and throw on slightly beefier tires, there's really no need to at this point for my use case. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the stock Goodyear Wranglers handled everything when aired down to 20psi, though I do still question their durability when traversing rocky sections.

I'll probably upgrade as items wear out or I find good deals, but as-is the truck is so good I don't want to change it. The only thing I added when I got back was a set of $70 ditch lights I found on Ebay, to make it easier to find campsites at night.
