Been considering the S&B CAI and now looking at the K&N. Now that I have the Ford Performance tune installed, Borla duals to expel the exhaust, it's time to look at the intake side of this motor. Specifically, I am looking for y'all who have the M-9603-REB27 Procal4 tune installed and given the time for adaptive learning to produce real time results and then added a cold air intake system. What improvements did you experience, if any, by adding the CAI after the Ford Performance tune?

I have the tune and an Intake but I put the bolt-on in first. If by results you mean verifiable from a dyno tune I will not be doing that. Runs great with more power and smoother shifting at all rpms though.

Thanks for the response Andrew. I agree with NO dyno. The feel of the vehicle is more important than numbers.

Hey again Andrew. Assuming you bolted on the K&N CAI, can you post a picture of it? The K&N installation diagrams show the air box open under the hood which kinda defeats the design of bringing in cold air. I've asked K&N for clarification, but they must be busy :)

Are these completely open on top? Because they look like they're completely open on top...

So far i am not that impressed with the procal calibration on my 2.7
It has about 100 miles on it since the tune.
It definitely shifts better but thats all i notice

From what I've read, yes these are open top. It would be nice if they included a clear, removable plastic lid like S and B does. Also I wish it was available with a dry filter.

2.7L Ford Performance Tune – Just my take

Let’s see…..I invested my Father’s Day weekend at the 38th Annual Rocky Mountain Mustang Rally and watching the 104th running of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Both reminded me that I would rather be driving than watching, so I just had to take er out for a spin.

I’ve never owned a turbo charged vehicle, let alone one with a 10 speed automatic transmission. But I learned quite a lot in my 2 years with Shelby Automobiles and one lesson was paramount….modify with a purpose.

The 2.7 Ford Performance tune does very little in that 1.4 to 2.4 RPM range and going through urban congestion. Knowing when to shift keeps the RPM's up and looking just at the tachometer never won Carroll Shelby any races. So my first modification was a Borla dual exhaust so I can listen for my shift points. Yes, my exhaust took on a bit different sound with this tune.

Ford’s performance tune will never win them any awards or races and is exactly what I expected for under $1,000 complete. But when used properly, and your willingness to forget about gas mileage and tire wear, you can have a whole lot of fun with this truck. Ford designated red-line for the intended purpose of approaching it. Their suspension also is fast…..no, quick-friendly so embrace corners with respect and courage. Learn to shift often, fast, and predictable, and you will find the tune a great addition to your driving pleasure.

That’s it folks. I look forward to others sharing their impression and experience.
Drive safe and with purpose.

If you are willing, post a sound clip of your exhaust. 😁
