I hate to even bring this up. Has anyone experienced loud, jolting clunks when traveling at highway speeds (70+) and giving extra throttle to overpass someone or maintain speed going up steeper grades?
Not flooring it, just moderate acceleration causing downshifts. I traveled west where speed limits are higher, so this is my first time hearing/feeling it. The transmission also "tripped" over itself when I had to break harder from higher speed during a backup in the mountains. More clunking, but not as bad as the accelerating examples. Happened 4 times in a week. 22,000 miles on it.
Thoughts?

Take it to the dealer or your local mechanic. The first thing I would inspect would be the driveshaft connector joints or any transmission mounts before assuming it's a transmission problem. Then go on from there. Just guessing from what you're saying.

Thoughts?
Is that the 10R80?
Or the latest 10R60?

Mine has done it once in an odd acceleration event with a sudden brake afterwards. Not since though

Thanks for the thoughts grand nat. It happened again today, but not as harsh. Similar situation- 70ish on the hwy. Went to pass a slower car, uphill. Downshift clunk.
Making an oil change apt, so i'll see what ford has to say. Not going to jump to any conclusions
