It is common for turbos to burn oil. 1 quart seems to be a bit much. Are you sure it wasnt underfilled from the factory?

If it is losing/using that much oil, you should either be able to see it on the ground or notice it in the exhaust.

What was the level when new? 1 litre of oil is massive and no way it burnt through that much in only 1,280km. That would be a leak and you would definitely know about it or can see evidence of it

Just out of interest, how do you know it used 1 litre of oil?

The other question is, did you wait 15 minutes to check the oil on a hot engine? With stop / start implemented in newer vehicles, the oil stays in the heads much longer to keep them lubricated after several minutes of the engine being off.

On most modern vehicles, the service manuals typically state to check on level ground, about 5 minutes after the engine has been shut off (fully warmed up as oil expands thermally). Now with start / stop tech being implemented, there's extra oil in the heads and slower drain-back to accommodate frequent starting and stopping.

I always wait 10-15 minutes after shutting it down from being fully warmed up to check mine. On a 7k change interval, mine did not use any amount of oil that was detectable on the dipstick, so 1 quart in 1.2km is excessive, but that's assuming it was not low when originally purchased and checked properly.

So suppose the factory filled it low (by 1/2 quart), then you checked it without waiting for it to drain back from the heads, it would read 1 qt low, but in reality it didn't actually use any oil, rather it was low from the factory and was improperly checked, leading to gross error in the oil level reading.

This might be a situation where you do an early oil change, make sure it's full and then monitor it every 1k after to see if the issue continues.

I had that much left over from the oil change on the powerboost, a little more than a L, then it brought the dipstick to the full level.( I am not an idiot, currently am rebuilding 5 engines)

Sat overnight, checked in the AM. I have owned at least a dozen diesels, countless gas jobs, gt500, own a alchemi 392, never seen this till now. I have never trusted any brand as infallable, check every one to see if there is a pattern. Also had a farm with tractors (300 hp). I check oil on anything, to prevent a surprise.

Brand new RR after 1k miles?

How did you did your engine break-in?

Asking because I come from the German world (3 VW 4cyl turbo, 2 V6T Audis, 1 V8TT Audi and BMW I6T) and had my fair part of burning oil.

2 VW burned a little oil on the EA888, but the worst one was the SQ7, like more than the 11L pan before oil change was due.

I adjusted my breakin process to put more pressure on the seals (acceleration and deceleration). I'm not an engineer but it served me well so far
