So, my RR drinks a little bit of oil. I'm getting my oil changed every 15k kms (9300 miles) instead of 20k kms (12400 miles) and when I'm nearing the 15k, the level is going for minimum but with some margin.

Edit: I actually never checked the level after the last oil change. Perhaps it was on the low side to begin with. I do remember it being new with a lower than max oil level also.

Yesterday I went to the dealer for a 1l jug of oil and according to the receptionist there is 0W30 in my car. I thought nothing about it and went on my way. Today I wanted to add some and to my surprise saw "5W30" printed on the filler cap. Sooo, what should it be?

Not sure what your weather is like over there but the 0W is better when it's cold I know I run the 5W here in Canada and it's fine. I would just use it to top up for your next oil change then get some 5W30.

Can't go wrong with Amsoil, use this in my RRaptor and getting ready to swap the GT500 over to it on it's first change in my ownership.

I'm also at 551 ft above sea level and it barley gets below 0F. If it ever got 20 below 0 (Freedom Units) people here would lose their mind.

I use Mobil-1 0W-30 full synthetic in my raptor

I have found this oil has consistently been the best oil for starting in Cold Yukon Temps over the years. I change every 5000kms , despite it claiming to be good to 14000.

It's not cheap but fortunately it often goes on sale up here and I buy a few jugs ahead of time so I always have an oil change to save costs.

Used it for last 15 years in most of my engines, zero issues ever.

Motorcraft Full Synthetic is hands down the best for this truck imo, it’s just expensive. It’s what the engine is designed to use and on top of that there are plenty of 3rd party tests out there showing that it has a better additive package than Mobile 1, etc.

I would agree with you as for quality, however motorcraft doesn't make a 0W-30 AFAIK

In -40C it makes a significant difference for start up, easier on the starter, easier to crank, less drain on battery, and the wear and tear on a frozen engine at first start is where majority of wear occurs.

If motorcraft comes out with a full synthetic 0W-30 id switch, but for now I am hesitant to move off Mobile as it has gotten me through so many winters now without a single fault.

I wish I had pictures of it, but the last time I pulled apart an engine it had been running Amsoil since the break-in change, swapped every 2,500-3,000 miles.

It was absolutely spotless. Not a trace of sludge or nastiness accumulation to be found. The thing looked brand new.

I'd been running it the same way in just about everything since around 2001. I've never had a wear or oil-related failure/symptom, nor have any of my engines used a measurable amount of oil.

To be fair, that's probably down to the change interval but, still, Amsoil has been good to me.

As far as viscosity, I just use whatever the manufacturer suggests for the conditions in which I'm likely to find myself.
