I love my new 25, 2.3 ranger, this little 4 cyl has plenty of juice.
I have 1700 miles on it, plan to change oil around 2k miles.. go to synthetic oil then change every 5k.
Checking the oil it looks good. But has a slight gas smell to it. Is this. Ormsl? This is my first turbo. I also notice, it seems like more valve noise, than expected. Someone on the forum told me thats normal. Due to direct injection. I am used to hearing either my old 93 f150,5.0 or my 14 camry with a 4 cylinder
I expect the engine to sound different on the ranger.

Direct injection is louder because of the pressure required to inject the fuel properly.

Thanks for the response on DI. Checking on my other question, if other rangers have a gasoline smell to the oil, also possibly affecting oil viscosity. I thinks its normal? The question is how much, requires oli change and send off sample for analysis, if needed? I know honda had a issue with this that caused issies with some of their 1.5 turbo engines. I hsve never hear of related issues with ecoboost engines.

Normal for DI engines to have gas in the oil and smell like it. Possible for it to dilute viscosity if OCI's are extended or forgotten. Sending a sample for analysis never hurts, would give some good info as to what mileage interval would be ok for oil changes.

Frequent short trips can lead to fuel in oil, so take a long trip, 30 minutes or more, to burn it out. There is also aftermarket 'catch cans' that will trap most of the fuel, preventing build up in the oil pan. Changing oil every 5k will prevent long term problems.

Most of my trips are 25 miles or less. . Mostly 45 mph speed limits, lots of traffic at times. Little driving on expressway.
