If that rendering is remotely close to what the new Dakota looks like no thanks. That thing is hideous looking!

At first quick glance I thought it was a Mitsubishi. It seriously looks like an electric Japanese truck. That thing is not appealing.

Boy, once you see the Mitsubishi resemblance, you can't unsee it.

Raider, is that you?

Is that truck pictured a shared platform with mitsubishi?
That sort of thing happens all the time in different global markets.
Occasionally happens here in the us too, the Ranger was originally a Mazda , and later the Mazda was Ranger. lol 😂

More recently in the US the Nissan shared its truck with Suzuki when Suzuki still sold autos here in the US.

Hit it CC - whoa, whoa….hold up now, let us never forget the mighty Ford Courier of the 70’s also stamped out across the Pacific by Mazda with a mind boggling 75ish-90ish HP, year dependent. Let those #’s sink in.
There was a time when you were the envy of the neighborhood bringing one of those HP gettin’ bad boy’s home off the lot! …..but those trucks also forced every teenage kid to have to learn to drive a stick if you wanted to take Dad’s truck out on a Saturday night.

And remember the Chevy Luv was an Isuzu and then the Isuzu was a Colorado…..so yeah you’re right it happens quite often.
Nissan/Suzuki ….. gotta be others as well

I had a 2009 1500 with the 5.7. 165000 miles when I sold it. Only issues since new was broken manifold bolts, ac compressor and evaporator core. Still rode great and solid feeling when I sold it a couple years ago.

I think all the gizmos and add ons cause so many of the issues people have with newer models, regardless of brand.

I was telling my buddy, if I could buy a brand new 1996 f150 4wd with the 5.8 right now I would over any of the newer trucks with all the extra, nonessential parts.

Yea, I sort of forgot they called the compact Fords Courior back then.
I had a buddy in Highschool that had one.
Ford Ranger 2028 RAM DAKOTA midsize pickup confirmed for US / North America 1766167064294-48

I always found it interesting that the early compact Ford trucks were made by Mazda and 20 years later the Mazda trucks were made by Ford. LOL

Hold up! That little green courier is straight MINT! And with WA plates….thats my neck of the woods. Did you lift that pic off the web or do you know that truck?
I’ve been on the hunt for the right cherry Courier for years. I love those 70’s mini-trucks. The Datsuns, especially the king cabs (7 or 8 whole inches) are especially appealing. But being a Ford guy a top tier Courier would be my first choice. And that thing is stellar! RAD color.

No, just picked up the pic off the old interwebs.
I just like using visual aids in my post.

I figured some members reading this maybe had never seen a Mazda built Ford Courier truck before.

and the mazda and ranger trucks from the 90s-2011 could have a mazda motor or a ford motor and most had mazda transmissions. my 04 ranger with the ford 3.0 v6 has a mazda 5 speed transmission. with a shift kit on it and a nice shift knob, it shifts like a sports car now. too bad the 3.0 is no hotrod, even with the 4.10 gears in back

Latest on the subject at hand hit my email from Motor Trend today.
Ram’s New Midsize Pickup Gets a Name Truck Fans Will Love

This was there Ai generated pic.
I think it just shrunk the image of a Ram 1500. LOL
I do like the look a heck of a lot better than some of the concept images I have seen of the Dakota.

I sort of surprised with the launch a year or so out, that there would not be pics of mules running around. We can generally learn a lot studying test mule images.

We may get a clearer picture of what is coming on New years day.

Ram has a bunch of amazing stuff coming in the new year, which we’ll be free to tell you about on New Year’s Day (set a calendar reminder to stir from your possibly hungover slumber to visit MotorTrend). During the Q&A after the announcement, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis fielded questions, which inevitably came around to the subject of the long-anticipated midsize truck.

Yes to a V8. Also, the 8-speed auto and a solid front axle. Wait, just need a V8 in the Gladiator. 🤣
