My two local Ford dealers are still adding $5K Market Adjustment, but this place near Palm Springs CA had me astonished…

Has anybody seen higher markups? Also, I am seeing two and three year old RRs with under 20,000 miles listed for $52-$55k. That is beyond crazy……

I tested a black RR at that Palm Springs Ford dealership last December. The white RR with extra paint, method wheels and black tip was right next to it. When I left the area in march it was still sitting there!!! Would GREED be the right word?

I was surprised to buy my '24 RR at MSRP in late 2024 at the local So. Cal. Autonation Ford dealer no less. They did try for the $5k mark-up and I simply told them I would by at MSRP or Im gone. No trade and paid in full. Actually one of the easiest vehicle buys I have ever done.

IMO, the upcharge in prices is exactly what the gas stations do to us EVERY HOLIDAY on fuel. BOTH should be illegal, and if they get caught lose their license !!!!!!!!!!

You make a good point. Lay it on the line to the dealer. Just make it fair.

When I traded in my Chevy Traverse I checked pricing for the same year, model and mileage and they were selling for $35K so I knew I wanted to get no less than $30K on a trade in. The first dealer kept telling me $24K on a trade in, no more. As I was walking out the door they stopped me and said I'll give you $30K. I left.

Next dealer I went to I was offered $32K for my Chevy Traverse trade in.

i assume that if you pay some sort of adjustment, your insurance company doesn't value that car $5 or 20K more right? So if the car is destroyed, you are out of luck for the extra, regardless of the faulting party. Am I correct?

This is correct, and the argument I have given to people who are willing to pay ADM. If you drive that truck you paid $10k over MSRP out of the lot, and get t-boned... you are instantly out that $10k

I think it may be a marketing gimmick.
Some one sees that Raptor but knows they can't pay $80K for it.
So, the dealers say, "How about an XLT FX4 for $50K".
Then the poor sucker thinks he is getting a great deal.

If you are buying new you can buy from an out of state dealer and have it shipped to you or your nearest Ford dealer. I wouldnt even bother with buying in California at all if this is what you are seeing.

Negotiate your trade in first. Then offer MSRP or less. If not walk.
