Depends what you’re looking for. I’ve never been a huge Toyota fan, tacos are actually my least favorite of the mid sizes. I have yet to own a Ranger (waiting on my RR order), so my opinion might mean little. I do like what I see in the Rangers but more so the high end ones (ie the Raptor or Tremor in previous years).

I will say, I own a 22 Frontier ProX right now and love it. Best truck I’ve owned to date and have absolutely 0 issues with it and I’m at about 45k miles on it. The only reason I am trading it is because the I’ve always loved the idea of a midsize raptor and now that they have one I can’t not get it!

On the road, in my area I haven't saw a new Tacoma or Ranger yet. I see a few Colorado and Frontiers. Lots of Frontiers on dealer lots for 200+ days in my area.Trucks aren't selling well, but Ford is currently last, buy its my preference. Almost considering waiting on a 25 xlt, unless I see a real deal on a 24 I like. Ford seems to be having issues making, Delivering, wait times on Rangers. This is something affecting all brands, some of its related to covid and or the strike and more. Off topic, but I have concerns if there is a major problem on a new truck I buy. The manufacturers don't seem to have enough of some parts to produce new trucks, resulting in people with their vehicle down, waiting on parts for a long time. Who will be priority? Parts for a new truck ,or one they have already sold?

I would not dither waiting on a 2025 Ranger unless you want to pay significantly more. If the recent press launches showing off the 2025 Mavericks is any indication with a base price increase of almost $2400 on them, I would expect the same on the 2025 Rangers.

In my area, Ranger inventory is stacking up on dealer lots. Starting to see $1000 to $2500 dealer discounts on them for non Raptor models. I am expecting quite few 2024 leftovers when the 2025's come out.

Evidence? Other than TFL breaking a diff off road, I haven’t heard of anything. I’m curious because I was planning to buy one and then changed my mind for a Ranger.
New Tacoma’s are having transmission problems. Plenty of info on it out there.

If you have a '22 Frontier and love it, you'll be blown away at ANY other midsize truck in the segment. That's coming from a guy who had a '16 and '22 Frontier SV 4x4 with options on both. Nissan is stuck in the stone age. The new Frontier is the closest you can get to a 1990s truck in something that's brand new.

As for all this talk of Toyota, apparently you guys haven't been paying attention. They went from bodies that would rust and fall off the frame in the 1980s to frames that folded like a lawn chair in the 1990s to head gasket failures, crank failures, beds that cracked, etc. in the 2000s to absolutely horrible launches of the new Tundra and Tacoma both in present day. Toyota has always made junk. I have no idea how they earned the reputation they did. Must have stellar P.R. department.

Heard the quip years ago that Toyota does not necessarily build a better product, they build a better customer.

Frontier is likely a 2nd choice for me. Prices are good too. Can buy a SL or PROX for Higher end XLT$. money.

Well don’t get me wrong I like the tech stuff like most others but it seems all the fancy computer controlled stuff has lots of bugs regardless of brand/model if you look at all the forums talking on large amounts recalls and all. Might be a bunch of green horn software people, who knows, so the old school tried and true method like with Nissan might be better for some that wants a reliable trouble free experience

Toyota's 4.0L, 3.5L and especially the 2.7 were pretty bullet proof. Like the new Tundra the new Tacoma is having some major teething issues. I think the 4.0L had a couple of issues in its first year. I don't think Toyota is what it was, but they'll eventually sort out the issues. By the time the Tundra refresh comes out, it should be a solid truck. Honestly I wouldn't have bought the new ranger if it had a brand new engine and transmission. The Ranger has also been out on the global market for over a year before it was released here.

Current generation Frontiers tank in value on the used market pretty good. When shopping around before settling on my Ranger, I heavily contemplated getting a one year or current year used low mileage Frontier PRO4X as they were easily going for $10K-$12K below new MSRP

I have had a couple of Tacoma's and a couple of Tundra's and even a FJ Cruiser and really never had a problem with any of them. The only thing that stuck out about owning them is it seemed like every 6 months there was some recall to take one of them in for something.

It is my belief though that Toyota has only rank somewhat higher in the initial quality surveys in the last 10 years or so is their infotainment systems are way less complicated and archaic compared to the domestic makes and get dinged way less for it in the surveys. The mechanicals being average.

I am looking at either a new ranger or tacoma. I prefer ranger but might consider tacoma. New Tacoma are more expensive and seen to be having more problems on this gen ? Older tacomas very reliable, so are very old fords, I have a 93 f150. Looking at trucks on the lots. A 2wd sr5 is going for high 40sk, I can get a xlt for around 40k. Both Toyota dealers in my area have about 2k dealer addons on the sticker I don't need, drives up price more. Ford has been making turbo trucks longer. For service I prefer Toyota dealers from my experience . Cheaper truck is Frontier but thstd a different animsl.
Get the Ranger more offered features for less $. Way better ride. I went through the same comparison. I purchased a 2024 Ranger XLT FX4 4X4 with the FX4, technology, pro trailer packages. Soo happy with my decision
