26’ RR ticking sound on cold and warm start

Hey Forum!

I have a 26’ RR with 1200 miles and went out to start the truck this morning and started to hear a loud ticking noise from the driver side of the truck. You can hear it from the driver side wheel well and from under the truck.

is this a normal thing for this engine?

it happens on cold start and does not go away once warmed up. The ticking sound goes with rpm and can be heard from in the cabin with windows up and radio off. Didn’t hear this before when I purchased the truck.

I have a scheduled appointment for inspection on this issue.

is there anything I should be concerned about?

From what I can hear on your video, it sounds like lifter noise to me.

It doesn't sound normal to me. Let us know what the dealership has to say.

Thanks guys!! after some of you’re suggestions I do believe it might be a lifter or rocker arm.

I’ll keep you guys updated on what dealership says.

Manufacturing defects happen. Do a google search of for brand new engines ticking from GM, Dodge, Ford, Toyota etc. They unfortunately do happen, but that's what warranties are for! It stucks big time, but IF they fix it, it's documented and I would ask for a 100k extended powertrain warranty too for peace of mind, you come out with a win.

mine is in shop also after losing power, issues starting and when runs makes this noise, id only had the RR for 12 hours ( bought with 15k miles) last thing the shop told me was the engine is coming out this week - its been in the shop since the 7th ... I have no idea what it could be

Doesn't go away... Sounds like a sticky lifter or bent rod. Be easy on the accelerator just in case. Good luck.

Were this a pushrod engine, that might be a good guess. With a DOHC head like the 3.0 has---Well not so much.

So just an update! most of you guys were right! After a few days of the truck being at the dealership they found it was loose exhaust tappets/ lifters. 4-5 days for the part to come in, truck has been at the dealership for about a week now.

Not entirely sure how that happens but luckily it’s covered under warranty. Not sure if this is a common problem with these motors as this is my first ford. Still love the truck but kinda gives me anxiety if this thing will last.

Kinda bummed they call these motors performance engines but have problems brand new/ low miles. I’ve had handful of performance cars (German & Japanese) and never had issues when brand new..

I guess it’s just my luck of the draw on this one. Thanks for all the help!
