This is written for gear heads like me:

“Yet four years into production (seven years if you include its technical debut with Lincoln) little is known about what makes Ford’s twin-turbo 3.0L EcoBoost tick—and not even Ford is very forthcoming with details. Upon taking ownership of a ’22 Explorer STlast fall, the inquisitive mind of a gearhead took over and yours truly needed some answers. What size are the turbos? How strong are the rods? What are the nuts and bolts that make this parallel-turbo’d, small displacement V-6 so great? After a bit of digging and scrounging I found what I was looking for, and then some. Every spec you ever wanted to know about this engine is listed here, along with a few of its factory shortcomings.”

Isn't it the same 3.0 as Ranger Raptor?

It looks close but there’s a couple things that don’t match anymore. The article says direct injection but our 3.0s have both port and direct injection. So the basic architecture is probably right with some slight differences.

We do not have dual injection. It is direct injection only. Ford website has typos.

It's interesting that we get a bit more HP and torque than the Explorer ST at 400/415. Since the article's a few years old I thought that maybe those specs were outdated, but according to Ford.com the 2025 ST has the same power.

Links confirming that? Both Canadian and US website shows the 2.7 and 3.0 having Port fuel and Direct injection.

Also, they are very visibly different. I can walk out and look and tell it's not both. It was a misprint on Ford's part. Not the only one. If you need, I can go out and take a picture of the engine (3.0) and if you know what you're looking at, you'll be able to tell.
